Sailing from San Juan - questions

Recommended Posts

I don't want to hijack the thread, but I have some questions about sailing from San Juan, also. First, what time can you board? Secondly, what time is the muster drill? Also, is the dining room open for dinner on the first night, when sailaway is at 8:30?

We're booked on AOS for 12/7/08 out of San Juan and the ship sails at 8:30pm. Thanks.

Boarding usually begins around 11:30 or 12 in San Juan. Yes, they will still have normal seating in the dining room that night. I know on Serenade the muster drill was in between the two dinner seatings so they just move back 2nd seating by 30 minutes.

All great questions. I could use those answers also for our 11/08 serenade?

Not sure I understand the "muster" I assume it is some kind of safetly drill that all must be present for. How do we find out what time this is??

We don't sail till 10PM, on one forum someone suggested to check in on the ship at 1-2 and then leave and tour San Juan. Would this work?? what time would we need to be back. What time does it get dark in San Juan in November??

Also for whoever said they stayed at the Stellaris casino, where did you book thru?? what kind of price??

The muster drill is a safety drill. It's also referred to as a lifeboat drill. You will go to your muster station at an appointed time with your life jacket from your cabin. The exact time of the muster drill will be listed in the 1st days compass, but on Serenade it was around 8am (between first seating and second seating)

I recommend boarding around 11:30 and exploring the ship for a little while, make your reservations etc. Then around 1pm when you can drop off your carryons in your room go back to OSJ. You will have to be back onboard ship by around 7:45 for muster drill (again they will tell you the time you have to be back onboard for muster drill when you get to the ship).

Check Cruisedailies for the latest compasses on the AOS, but when we sailed in May everyone had to be onboard around 5:00 and the muster drill was around 5:30. Sail away was right after first seating was finishing dinner. This May will be our 3rd year in a row on the AOS and there have been plenty of locals, but never had any problems that you don't see anywhere. I'm more worried when I sail out of my hometown port of NYC! ;)
