Pride Captain-January 2008

Tony,

I've not "fancied" the Minerva I or II, but have wanted to sail on Saga ~~especially the Saga Ruby. Years ago I was aboard the "Radisson Diamond"a few times and the Captain was Neil Broomhall ~~one of the most personable, visable and super nice Captain's I've ever met. Regent sold the Diamond ship and Captain Broomhall was hired by Saga~~yep, 'ya got it ~~he's Mastering the Ruby.

You'll have a grrreat time with Captain Dexter ~~visitin' about the Minerva II. I wouldn't think too many Seabournites have been aboard either "Min's" If you happen to have an old Minerva Tee-shirt please take it with you......then walk up and say "Hello" to Captain Mark! Would be fun!

Grannylorr,

As to your Chef I don't know as Cheffy Markus is aboard now and will I think be aboard the Pride during the Christmas sailings.

The Captain replacing Capt. Dexter, middle of Feb. should be Capt. Erik Anderssen. But, Seabourn, as you know is switching their Captains a'round the Sisters.

I'll ask when I'm aboard the Pride in Oct.

Martita B,

Thank you.Swan Hellenic was 'resuscitated' by lord Sterling-former chairman of P & O. It was always a British up market cruise line which specialised in cultural voyages. As I but mentioned before the cruise per se was superb - lovely ship and staff. There was perhaps 5 USA passengers on board. The rest were all British. Many had double barrel names ie Lord Parker Parkinson or something. Lady so and so. They spoke better that our Queen !!. All terrible posh.

Night activities very minimal. We had two plays by the Royal Society of Arts-one about the Titanic. A couple of crew shows were very good.

In the evening after dinner we would see passengers sitting in the library undertaking the 'Times' crossword. It was all very snooty and too much so never again. Of course many of the loyal passengers enjoyed this. Our lecturers consited of a Bishop and a British diplomat who was at the helm at the hand over of Hong Kong-all difficult to comprehend.

I agree with you I don't think many of Americans know of Minerva etc.

Perhaps Capt Dexter was glad to get a way to Seabourn.

Kind regards

Tony

Chef Markus will indeed be taking November and December off and be back on board for SA. (At least if nothing changes). I hope Ricky Franko, CDC for the Verandah will also be onboard.

The Staff Captain will be that wonderful young man whose name I always forget!I think he joins in Valpaariso. (Martita will know.), blonde, young, and very capable. And fortunately M can get the updated scoop for us.

Jane

Are you thinking of Staff Captain Einar Westad? Yes, I'll gather "the skinny" for the South American voyage when I'm aboard.

I am hoping Chief Engineer Neil (?) will be aboard in Oct.~ I call him Mickey Mouse as he always has his large black earphones on his head ~~he's a super nice fellow. (looks 20, but I know he's older)

Jane, wasn't Captain Dexter driving on your recent crossing? I would love to hear your impressions of him!

Martha, It's Staff Captain Sigurd; the blonde hunk. Most impressive.

Matt, I was not the only one who found Captain Dexter charming and accessible. He kept us informed and only one day needed to update us a fewl times. He called a downpour a 'wee bit of celestial sprinkling' if that's a clue to his marvelous sense of humor.

Now, now, these are Officers, not Chippendale Dancers!

Thanks for the update on Captain Dexter!

I am so pleased to hear that Seabourn has promoted this capable young officer, in spite of or addition to Jane's high HQ (Hunk Quotient) rating. :p The last time I sailed with Sigurd, he was the Navigation Officer on the Legend Nov. 2005 Trans-Atlantic crossing.

Sailor's,

Capt. Mark Dexter will board the Pride Dec. 15th in Barbados. Capt. Anderssen will take some time off and be with his family for Christmas. Capt. Erik A. will rejoin the Pride March 17th for the TA Crossing to Lisbon. (I'm taking him a green bowtie for sail-a-bration;) ) Soooo, those aboard the Pride for the South America voyage will enjoy Captain Dexter ~~~he has a grrrreat sense of humor! Met him on the pier before boarding on Oct. 19th. I'll be e-mailing him after he get's settled, Dec. 15th ~~~

The Pride, Legend and Spirit are absolutely gorgeous during Christmas!

All Beautifully decorated ~~~a real treat!

Hi Martha,

What I don't understand, is why they wait until Dec. 22 to decorate for christmas? I'm sure that the ports we visit will be decorated in the festive spirit. We board Dec. 15 and disembark on Dec.22, two days prior to the eve of christmas.

For those of us taking this short trip before the holidays, why wouldn't Seabourn want to get into the holiday spirit? The anticipation of the actual (christmas) holiday,is part of the fun.

In otherwords, everywhere will be signs of christmas, except on Seabourn.

This is my first cruise with Seabourn, and while I'm positive I will love it,I just wish I had picked another cruise line for these dates. I know other ships have at least some of their decorations up by that time.

Denise

Seabourn used to decorate early for Christmas, but now it's for the Christmas/New Year's sailings.

Why don't you take Suite decorations and some wonderful holiday air spray (I love the "Christmas tree" spray) and enjoy your own decorations!

Last year I took a darlin' tiny tree with all the decorations (even the battery lights) and we all decorated it one afternoon at the Sky Bar ~~I sent it to the Crew Mess Hall.......they loved it!

Denise,

Before you board you can purchase red flowers for your Suite ~~

Also downtown Barbados has fabulous shopping ~~I believe I shopped at Woolsworth last year for ship decorations! I boarded in Barbados and stayed the 3 weeks aboard the Pride, but I took lots of fun, inexpensive holiday items. You can even take Sky Bar decorations ~~take them to Nelson and ask him to place these a'round! Nelson is a biggggg favorite!

Have fun~~be festive!:p
