Boytjie Posted October 22, 2007 #76 Share Posted October 22, 2007 I normally bring a few bottles of expensive wine and pay corkage, but there is plenty of food that is better matched to beer. Unfortunately, on the HAL cruises I've taken, the beer list has been lousy. A ship sailing out of a US port should have some Sam Adams or Brooklyn or Ommegang (Cooperstown, NY) and not just Bud and Miller in regular and lite. A good beer is often a better companion to a steak or a burger than a glass of wine. Bring on the good beer. Since they had good Alasaka beer on our Alaskan cruise, I don't know why they could not add other regional beers. I don't even recall what other beers they carried since I drank Alaskan beer when I felt like a beer. I remember noticing buckets of Corona :) BTW, love the Ommegang! We visited the brewery a few years ago while in the Cooperstown area.
papadave Posted July 5, 2008 #77 Share Posted July 5, 2008 We're going to take a 14 day cruise in August 2008 on HAL. I'm counting on good beer. Frankly, I am tired of waiting for a port stop just so I can get a beer that is darker then lemonade.
Krazy Kruizers Posted July 5, 2008 #78 Share Posted July 5, 2008 If you are sailing on an Alaskan cruise, your chances of a getting a dark beer as good. On these cruises, the Alaskan Brewery our of Juneau is on the ships. It is so popular that a couple of times - they ran out!!

DH enjoys them both:)

Taxguy77 Posted July 6, 2008 #81 Share Posted July 6, 2008 It's a Dutch ship. Are you kidding? Beer is perfectly fine at meals. You will have a nice selection. Try something new. Glad to hear the beer selection is good. Last year I discovered a 'new to me' beer when the Brit I was drinking with (& his wife) kept ordering it. :D

The cheapest beer from that brewery is Corona.:mad:To Papadave; try Negro Modelo:)
Cruiser809e8r09 Posted July 6, 2008 #84 Share Posted July 6, 2008 Some dinner ideas: http://www.thestar.com/Life/Food/article/191398 This has to be my favorite microbrew ever: http://www.thebeerguy.ca/shop/products/beer/brands/northern_red_maple.php http://www.northernbreweries.com It's a very sweet beer made with maple sugar, locally brewed in northern Ontario. I am looking forward to trying Pitons beer in St. Lucia. Heard lots of good things about it.
