Internet Access and Skype on Gem

Hi guys. We are taking the Barcelona to Boston cruise on the Gem on Dec 3 (what a deal....now down to $50 per night for a veranda)

Two questions - 1 does anyone know anything about wifi onboard? Is it in all rooms? What kind of packages are available? How has service been?

Second, does anone know if they have blocked skype, Yahoo messenger voice, etc? I've not cruised NCL before, but was able to skype on RCCL but not on Regent.

Any insight would be appreciated!

Hi! Please come and join the roll call for this sailing! http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=454828 We've got a great bunch of Mad Mariners on the Gem's 12/3 Transatlantic, and we've got a lot of fun activities planned!

Yes, there is ship-wide wifi. I believe the charge is $0.75/minute, with various bundles available which will bring the cost down (e.g., 100 minutes, 150 minutes, 250 minutes).

I don't know about Skype. I thought I recently read a thread on this board that such services were blocked? Maybe somebody else can help out with this.
