Pool Question

Hi to All,

just a question for recent cruisers on Journey, how cold is the pool and is it salt water?

We found that on all our trips the coldest pool was on the Summit, does anyone have any comparisons?

Thanks for your replies.

Yes, the pool is salt water, and the temperature varies.

On our first day, (9/22 cruise) the pool was freezing and the hot tubs boiling. After that, both were pleasant.

I assume that the pools are filled with filtered ocean water every few days, and when this has just occurred, then the temp is pretty close to sea temp., and then it is eventually heated to a decent temp. Why hot tubs are occasionally way too hot is a mystery.

Are you permitted to take towels off the ship, when you go to the Beach? I'd hate to have to pack one!

Thanks.

Hi Nancy !

You probably will be allowed to do so, but most Cruise Lines will charge you if you lose the towels from your Cabin. If you do take the beach towels from your Cabin, I would recommend that you are extra careful to bring them back to the ship with you.

Enjoy your Cruise !

They put towels in your cabin that are for taking off the ship to the beach. If you need towels on the pool deck, they issue them on the deck. Don't take the towels from your cabin for that. As far as a charge if not returned, I don't recall them saying they will charge if you lose them.

One of the nice things about Azamara is that they don't do the "one pool towel per person" thing like some other lines. Rolled pool towels are available on the deck chairs in the morning, and also at the pool deck entrances. The pool towels are yellow. However, I noticed that at the gangplank they also had blue towels available for shore use, I think you signed for these. However, I always ended the day by getting two fresh pool towels so our bag could be packed for the next day, and almost all the towels I noticed at beaches were the yellow pool towels.

Our room was supplied with two yellow pool towels for shoreside use. They were always promptly replaced by our butler when we came back. On the way down to Bermuda, a beach bag was placed on our bed. It was a small black and blue canvas-type bag similar to those given to conference goers. It had the Azamara logo printed on the side.

We didn't use the pool, but we did use the hot tubs a couple of times. The large one in front of the spa area was cold so we didn't use it. The two near the pool ranged from pretty warm to extremely hot.

Hi Charles !

I can tell you on all other RCI owned lines, they can and do charge you for the special towels that are left in your cabin to take off the ship, should you lose them. Whether they charge you or not on Azamara, I am unsure.

I will be sure to try to find out what Azamara's policy is, when I am onboard Quest next week.

I just got off the ship yesterday. The pool water was cold when I got in, but I got used to it in a hurry. It was a bit choppy on the first and last sea days. It was never very crowded when I was in, I paddled around for quite awhile. The hot tub was very warm. I never made it to the T-pool. We were given 4 yellow towels (2 sets of 2 on different days) in our suite which we took to the beach and up to the deck in the evening because the loungers were a bit damp for sitting during those activities. One day I put 2 of them on the floor of the bathroom to absorb the overflow from the shower/bathtub.

the t pool during my cruise was extremly hot... i loved it, it was always empty and they have those lovely deck chairs out there. i fell to sleep everytime i hit those chairs. i did not see a lift for the pool and the two hot tubs by the pool had to stair rail to hold on too, i was afraid i would fall.

i happen to be overweight and i found this ship to be very friendly. most of the chairs were comfy for me, but in the restaurants i had to ask for a chair without arms, this was never a problem. william in prime c and rizard in aqualina and discoveries never had a problem finding a chair for me. the second night at prime c, william already had a table ready for me. i have to say the hardest part for me was the very small bathroom in my cabin, that was not so friendly but i lived. i also found that the elevators were always empty, how great is that.... my favorite spot was right outside the casino on deck 5, they have the deck chairs. what a great view, with no sun. i hit that spot daily. the bedding was also superb, i slept like a baby..

If I waxed my legs and bought a new suit for nothing.... Hello? Nice folks at RCCL, those of us with mobility impairments enjoy pools also. Actually after a day of rolling my shoulders require a soothing hot tub/jacuzzi. It's not like adding a lift is a major refit problem.

Thanks Stefie for the heads up. Maybe the spa tub is accessible. I can hope. Glad you didn't fall. That seems strange not putting a rail or grab bar near the pool tubs. My DH will love that shady area. He's a burner but I tan easily and was really looking forward to some sun and pool time. Just bought my books for the cruise Saturday.

Wow Thank you for a real lift for me...WE CAN GET CHAIRS WITHOUT ARMS. The only bad thing about dining on the R ships I've been on, were those blessed fancy "captains"chairs that meant another night sitting on the edge of my seat and a very nasty backache later. I really am thrilled that we can ask for and get more comfortable seating!! HAve problems when "One Size.." doesn't fit ALL! Yes those showers are a real challenge, but as you said they're "do-able", as I have bad knees, I also wish they had bars in the bathrooms, and showers...on a ship you could really use them sometimes in rough weather, and no curtain bar to help balance (as the curtain attaches right at the ceiling). I used the showerhead mostly. Again thanks for the heads up about the chairs!!!:D

If you think it might help ask your room attendant for a shower chair. Some are good and sturdy while still fitting the showers. Others are little more than step stool looking objects that are very low with no back. Thank goodness they at least have accessible cabins for those of us who no longer can walk with fold down benches. Although on some lines those benches are the perfect size for a 6 year olds butt. LOL I bring my own now.

Not quite that bad off YET, but since I have the bad knees, it is nice to have help balancing, it can get a little hard when ship is moving around alot. I am thankful for showers only, those little deep tubs are heck to climb in & out of, and not really much use as a tub! Only suites have those decent sized tubs, which I wouldn't use anyway (knees again). Was also wondering about the size of the chairs on Veranda, look skimpy...can we get replacement of these also?? (Had nice ones on Oceania last yr., these look far less comfortable):)
