Ocean Players Club - Perks?

Had you played on a prior cruise? Or was this the first time you've signed up?

We registered at the casino on the Glory in 2005, and I did re register online about 10 days ago and got a confirmation email, so will we get the same goodies as you?

It was the first time I signed up. I didn't do it on a previous cruise and I didn't even register my plays of this cruise. I don't play much $20 on this cruise...but I did win Bingo for only $10!! Better odds than in the casino! I would expect you to get the same things I did.

Okay, I'm not even sure if I'm a member or not. I filled out the little card on the Fantasy in January, and gave it back to the cashier, who told me it would be activated for my next cruise, which was the Ecstasy in May. If I filled out that card and gave it back to them, am I a member? Or do I need to fill something else out again just to be sure? I never got any kind of confirmation.

You are a member. Now for your Fantasy cruise just go to their site hit the cruising again then fill in your info. Where it asks for member # just put all 9's. You will get an email that says you are added to the OPC list for that sailing.

Anyone back from a cruise that want to share what they got as their gift?? Has anyone signed up and not gotten anything? DH gambles and I signed him up. Will be on the Fantasy in a few days for NYE.

I was on the 11/25 Pride cruise. I got a plate of 4 chocolate covered strawberries, waiting for me in my room. The first night at dinner, someone came to my table and asked for me and gave me a $15 photo coupon.

As an additional bonus, apparently i was on the Past Guest Reunion cruise and also received the following, ( not casino related).

A Carnival Beach bag filled with a Carnival hat, Carnival t-shirt, pen, photo coupon with purchase, playing cards. It was a nice surprise.

Just returned from the Miracle. Received the plate of chocolate-covered strawberries and also a $15 photo coupon. And at one point near the end of the cruise, I received a $10 credit on my card.

I didn't get up the nerve to play at the blackjack table.

I didn't have much luck at the slots until I tried the obnoxious Wheel of Fortune machines, which were all together on one wall. $0.25 machines on the ends with 3 or 4 $1 machines in the middle. I stayed with the quarter machines until the last night, when I had too much wine to drink and was up about $150 on the quarter machine. Put that much into the $1 Red, White & Blue machine in the middle, and walked away with $899.50 at the end of the night!

Thanks to all for recommending the Wheel of Fortune. I actually came home with more cash than I left with and I used cash for food & shopping (not a lot) in the ports plus taxi & tips. I normally lose my entire gambling allottment (but that's exactly why I allott it before I sail), so to come home with it all was a pleasant surprise. That will go in the bank and as a payment on my credit card (which will take care of my entire S&S account)!

Well it seems it depends on WHICH Carnival ship you are on. Thus far I have been looked at funny when I inquired about the "Players Club" and getting a rating and was told to use my SS card in the slot machines for points. I point to the display of "stuff" in the display window regarding the "Players Club" and get a shrug.

At the Caps table (Err Dice, when on Princess) I was told they do not do ratings at all. I tend to risk several hundred dollars whenever I am at the craps table, $25 on the line with $50 odds and either come or place $$ depending on my mood.

With 4 Carnival Cruises just in 2007 and as far as a rating, perks, and such, nada. I did get a cold however. Just got off the Paradise on a 4 day,12/17-21/07 noticed several of the crew in the casino and yep, countless acts of handwashing did not save the day, both GF and I have a cold. It seems I can't say I/we got nothing extra from the Casino.

I had a similar experience on the Miracle last August. I asked to meet the casino manager and got an assistant manager. I asked to be rated and was told that they would notice me if I played alot. Kinda confusing.

We have traveled on several ships within CCL. Typically I wire advance a deposit to the casino division to have available on board (let's just say it's a decent size amount) so they know we are coming and place us on the guest list. Anything on the ship, Spa, Supper Club, very elegant birthday cakes, drinks etc are available as a comp from the Casino depending on your level of play. Just don't expect them to give you a $60.00 supper club visit after loosing $200.00 at the roulette wheel. But in reverse, even if you win $3,000 one night, there is still a great opportunity for benefits.

Here are just a few thoughts after several of these cruises and getting the opportunity be invited to dinner a couple of times with the Casino Manager and other staff. I never play slots so I can't give any advice in that area, but some of these ideas could apply to slots also.

* Each and every time you sit down at a table game, take out your sign and sail card and lay it in front of you. The dealer will have a supervisor to come over and record the information so they can rate you or at a minimum say hello. Don't expect a drink or free gift if they don't know who you are. Remember there are typically 2,000 people on the ship. If you play a lot by the 2nd or 3rd day when you pull your card out the manager will wave, call you by name and you can put the card up. In 14 cruises (not all on CCL) I've never gotten nor ever seen an Ocean Players Club card. I'm sure they exist but I've always just used my sign and sail card.

* The casino uses a ratio of time played versus amount wagered to determine your rating.. Throw a $100.00 bill down for one hand of blackjack each night and lose and walk away and you probably will never get much of any comp even though you've lost $700.00 on a 7 night cruise. Bet $25.00 (typically, but not always the minimum amount to get rated on blackjack) and play for 3 hours a night and walk away even every night and you will definitely be on their radar and probably enjoy several perks. Winning or losing is not what they base the rating on. Many times people will indicate they lose a large amount of money in the casino, but it's the time played that kills their rating.

* Never ask for a freebie when you first meet someone in management. One Casino Manager said he gets about 50 to 75 requests the first day of every cruise from people for a free drink. Typically on the first night he doesn't buy anyone a drink as he would wait and see what their play levels are. However, the people who just introduce themselves and say they are looking forward to a wonderful trip are really the exception and stand out in the mind of the management group.

* Chat up the dealers. I can't tell you the number of times I have sat down with a dealer one night and the next night they are managing that area. Apparently they have a lot of training programs and sometimes people are helping on busy nights. Find out about the dealer and what are their favorite ports, or where they wish they could cruise to next. You will probably get some great information along the way. The dealers actually want to carry on a conversation if possible. If a dealer recognizes you and you have been nice to them, they will try to be nice to you.

* TIP. This by far is the most frustrating issue in cruise casinos. The casino staff works off tips just like everyone else, including your room steward, wait staff, etc. While Carnival puts some tips on your room charge, the casino staff gets nothing out of those monies. I suspect many of you spend more time with the casino staff than your waiter and room steward combined, but yet never acknowledge their great service. It doesn't have to be a huge amount. Maybe a $5.00 chip every once in a while (or higher based on your betting) If youv'e never noticed, they have a bell beside the tip drop which they ring when you typically give a tip. I can promise you, managers will notice when the bell is ringing and they will be much more receptive to helping you when you help them.

We've been lucky enough to have a lot of perks over the years and have gotten to know some wonderful people in the casino. I would agree that each host and hostess along with managers, do things differently but typically if you try some of the above it will go a long way.

Good Luck!

Thanks for all the useful info. I am going on my first cruise in February on Victory, just wondered if anyone had insight on if there is indeed 3 Card Poker and what the table minums are as well as for BJ and Roulette. Is the casino open 24 hours? :)

Bumping this up because I am so glad I saw this thread. I used it and received the strawberries and coupon on the ship. I told my friend to do it and she did not. At dinner when I got the coupon she said she wished she would have done this!! I am sure she would have gotten more than we did since she gambles more than we do.:)

I registered before our cruise in October(about 4 months before we left) and we got a photo coupon, chocolate covere strawberries, bottle of champagane, and 2 free drinks each. I had not even played yet.

I have registered my cruise in April of 09 already and was sent an email that I can expect gifts in my stateroom when I arrive and "To please see the cashier the day I board." Thought that last part was a strange message but now I understand. They may have money for us.
