If anyone has a flight in in the next few days, check w/ your airlines.

The Melbourne airport just announced their terminal will CLOSE after today's last flight.

Don't know if O'do will close, but many flights will surely be affected, and hotel rooms are another story as evacuees have been grabbing anything they can find.

That's a nice change. I would rather be going to Charleston than Port Canaveral anyday. Weather looks good for them today also.

I am sorry for those that have had their cruises cancelled.:(

Okay, Majesty is sailing on Monday. Good. I'm Booked. BUT. . . FLL, and MIA are closed until Sunday Midnight. And anyone in South Florida has left. How are 2000 people supposed to make it to the ship in time for sail-away? And if we miss the boat, where is it going so we can catch up?

Need a little more info, RCCL.

no one is really flying into MIA yet... American has said they are starting a limited service starting 6pm Miami time today ( http://miami-airport.com/html/news_alert.html ), so service should start returning late Saturday and Sunday (it better - we're to fly into MIA Sunday 10:30am on American  for our Monday Majesty cruise too) FLL is still closed as far as I know

We are cruising on Explorer of the Seas and loved the suspense Royal Carribean has provided us, especially to list our cruise on their website hurricane update with Nothing next to it. Sorry, I bashed RRCL. Bottomline, they are still running a business and have a lot of customers. Business is all about customer service, not no-service. When you have no back up plan for customers to get in touch with you and your hours behind on your updates, that doesn't reflect well on the business. Don't forget they own Celebrity Cruise and somehow, the were able to make decisions for that cruise line. Go Figure ??

Anyways, Our flight with American Airlines is flying tomorrow morning from RDU to MIA. It's a straight flight to MIA, leaves at 6:40 AM arrives at 8:42 AM. If you need to rearrange your flight, see if they can fly you into RDU today and fly to MIA tomorrow morning. We are seeing no effects from the hurricane and have plenty of hotels still available.

The 3PM update is showing us still going out on the Majesty on Monday.? American Airlines has no information as to when the South Florida Airports will reopen. (Although the FAA only shows FLL and MLB shut down) So I am going to have to call AA again and see if they have any more info. Now that Frances has stopped, will she continue to go west to West Palm or is it time for her to head north and/or east. (PLEASE)

Am going to try to see what AA has for DFW to MIA that will get us to the port on time. (Hoping to get into south Florida by 1:00PM on Monday.) Just hope that there are cabs or limos running and they have gas! (Don't want to get into an "Amazing Race" Scenario.

Also our traveling companions are the In-Laws in Boynton Beach. They are currently hunkered down in their house (with Hurricane Shutters), no electric, and they plan to sleep in the Bathroom tonight in case of tornados. They are worried about the food in the freezer going bad.

Ah yes, a vacation should be an adventure.

mapsmith...

AA should be able to give you some alternatives to get you in on time... especially from their hub (DFW is a hub, right?). Get in touch w/ them as soon as you can. My Sun am flight from Cleveland was cancelled, but I could have booked something to get into MIA later on Sunday from CLE (through Chicago, I think it was), but quickly booking a hotel room was the problem. So I got a flight into MIA landing 10:30am-ish on Monday.

Hope your in-laws (and everyone else) come through OK :)

From the Port Canaveral website:

September 7, 2004

The waters of Port Canaveral are closed until further notice. This applies to all types of vessels, including recreational as well as cruise and cargo. A full inspection of the harbor and approaches and emergency dredging must be completed before the harbor can be re-opened.

The Canaveral Port Authority offices will be fully operational on Wednesday, Sept. 8 beginning at 8 a.m. and all employees are to resume their normal work schedules.

For the most current information on Port operations, please call the public advisory information line at 321-783-7831 and listen for the prompts. All information is subject to change. Individuals with questions concerning cruises should directly contact the cruise line.

Hopefully, they will be able to affect repairs and complete dredging by the 19th, which is 11 days away...
