Fitnessmaniac Posted October 24, 2007 #1 Share Posted October 24, 2007 We are boarding the Navigator of the Seas on Nov 5th. Has anyone done the west bound transatlantic from Europe to Florida in November? What were the seas like? Was is rough? Thanks. :)
rennybar Posted October 24, 2007 #2 Share Posted October 24, 2007 The Westbound can be rough but we are going somewhat South so that should help-the Navigator is such a good ship that when rough it is smooth-have fun!
corkpopr Posted October 24, 2007 #3 Share Posted October 24, 2007 Sea day to La Coruna might be tough and the evening out of Lisbon is always fun! Once down to Madiera and further south and then crossing near the equator it should be smooth sailing. We did Dec. last yr. and Nov. the yr before. Druke I Posted October 24, 2007 #5 Share Posted October 24, 2007 We've done several trans-Atlantics. You never know what sea state/weather will be - one day smooth, perhaps very rough the next time. Our last November crossing, 1995 on HAL's Maasdam, was very smooth from Lisbon to the Azores. West of the Azores, we hit an Atlantic storm, and it was quite rough for two days, then smoothed out before we hit Bermuda, and remained smooth into Florida. On that particular crossing, water entered the hull via the hawsepipe (anchor chainway); our cabin and some half dozen others, forward on Main Deck, flooded to a depth of approx. 6 inches. Luckily, they had other cabins to which we could be moved. Our smoothest trans-Atlantic was an eastbound crossing, March 1998, on the late great Royal Princess, from Buenos Aires to Barcelona, via Rio, Dakar, Casablanca and Gibraltar. The ocean was like a millpond!
Rare xpcdoojk Posted October 24, 2007 #6 Share Posted October 24, 2007 Crossing the equator is almost always a gaurantee of flat sees. Just the nature of the wind and weather cycles. Don't forget to wear your blue wrist bands so we can find each other!:D jc

Thanks. :) The seas for your transatlantic will likely be calm since it's a Southern crossing. We did the Brilliance transatlantic last November (also a Southbound) and had calm seas and mild temps for the entire journey. The three Northbound transatlantic's we've done the past two years have had rough seas on every one.

Gonzo70 Posted October 28, 2007 #10 Share Posted October 28, 2007 Is a TA from Miami to Amsterdam considered North, South, or neither?
Host Kewlguy Posted October 29, 2007 #11 Share Posted October 29, 2007 Is a TA from Miami to Amsterdam considered North, South, or neither? I would have to see the itinerary although my guess is it would be a southern route. Especially if it visits Madeira.

It is on Celebrity Century April 28, 2008. It goes Miami to Bahamas to Bermuda to ports near London and Paris and then ends in Amsterdam. It will be my first TA. SUZCRUZ Posted October 29, 2007 #14 Share Posted October 29, 2007 You choose the right TA. For 4 or 5 nights on the sailing, you gain an hour each night, by setting your clocks back an hour! LOVE IT!

We did a similar transatlantic this past April on Navigator and had horrible weather and many storms. Of course that doesn't mean your cruise will. The weather when doing a crossing is always unpredictable.
