Best dining venue for smoker

when bowling alleys in NJ use to allow smoking...yes! i did know people like that. as for prison...don't know anyone there...yet.

 

as for dogs...then you have to open it up to all pets...which would then lead to something resembling Noah's Ark...but not necessarily 2 of everything.

I am not saying my mom will HAVE to go for a smoke, but when/if I see that "crazed look in her eye", I will be able to point her in the right direction:)

 

Anyone watch the show "Mad Men", now THERE is smoking! Guess that's how it was in the old days, quite a switch from today!

 

Hey Salty, I know it is a little weird to want a smoke during dinner, but weren't you the one who started a thread about dogs being allowed on cruises? That's a little weird, a good idea, but still weird:D Sorry if I am wrong about it being you Salty...I am also a dog lover!

Hi, this might seem like an odd question, but my mom and I will be going on the Star in December and this is her first cruise and she is a smoker!

 

I would like to know which places are best to eat at night that are closest to either the outside or somewhere that my mom can go for a "smoke break". I just know her and she will be twittling her fingers on the table and really annoying me, so I would rather sit alone at the table while she goes and has her break, but I don't want her getting lost either:eek:

my mum's whole life was organised by where she COULD SMOKE....and yep..it killed her.(Feb 22)

She even refused a trip overseas because she COULDN'T SMOKE on a plane!!

 

put up with the twiddling fingers and you might keep her for a bit longer...

As a smoker, I will try to actually answer your question (which no one seems to have done.) From La Trattoria, it was a short wak outside to the smoking side of the pool. From Le Bistro, it was a short walk to the cigar bar. Eating from the pool buffet was a no brainer - port side tables. These were the areas I found most convenient for having a smoke between courses.

 

Enjoy every minute with your mom! Mine is gone and no, she was not a smoker, but lived with one until she was 84 1/2, so . . .

I was thinking of these choices as well.

But is the pool deck smoking? I thought there was no smoking on the pool deck.

 

Soho room and Bamboo are also just up the stairs from the Cigar bar and near outside doors as well. From Endless Summer, just down the stairs and out the door in the main lobby is another option.

Why would you and your DH sacrifice a nice dining experience because you're mom smokes. Let mom adjust to your speed and not the other way around.:eek:

As a Mom who is a smoker and has two children who are not,I can relate to this thread.

When traveling with my kids, I try and be courteous about smoking around them. My kids on the other hand understand I am a smoker and if I want a smoke break it is fine with them.

If we are in a state that allows smoking in restaurants I will ask for a non smoking section, my son on the other hand will ask for a smoking section for me.

I think some of this thread is just about how people are raised, and how close the family members are to each other.

I know when alot of us starting smoking it was not THE horrible habit, and was socially accepted.

It is true that "back in the day" smoking wasn't so horrible, so it is tough for the older people to understand all these regulations I suppose.

 

It sounds like we will have some options for a few dining places so I think we will be fine IF she needs to go for a smoke break.

I completely agree with your comments about family. Love, respect, compromise and flexibility go a long way toward keeping stress to a minimum and making us pleasant to be with.

 

Although I'm trying to quit (3 months now), my kids and DH have always been more than tolerant of my smoking.

I am slightly offended by this comment. I am the oldest of four children and we are VERY close. Neither of our parents smoked, but I am the only child who doesn't. Why they do or how they started is beyond me. I am allergic to smoke and can no longer step foot into my mother's home because even if no one is smoking, everything smells like it. No one smokes in my home, so most events are held here. My sister was recently very angry with me because her new boyfriend took out his cigarettes and I asked him to step outside (it was snowing).


The fact that I have ZERO tolerance for their smoking is not related in any way to how we were raised or how close we are. It has to do with the fact that it is unhealthy and a horrible habit that will kill them. I don't judge them for doing it, or love them less, but I certainly don't make it easy for them to do it. My brother recently complained how much cigaretes cost now, and I told him it was nothing compared to what the chemo will cost.

I am sure that you meant no offense by your post, but I am sure I am not the only one who loves a relative that smokes but refuses to enable them.
