happy2 Posted June 12, 2004 #1 Share Posted June 12, 2004 I have one son who wants to go dogsledding on snow and one who wants to do the glacier landing. I know dogsledding is on a glacier but have heard that they are snow covered and different from the blue ice covered glaciers with crevasses, etc. Has anyone done both? How diffrent are the glaciers. We may never take the boys (who are teenagers) to Alaska again, so which should we do for the best glacier experience or are they different enough that we should do both? Has anyone done the dogsledding at Alyeska Resort near Anchorage? How was it? Thanks!
natesfirewife Posted June 12, 2004 #2 Share Posted June 12, 2004 We did the Ice Trekking in Juneau through www.northstartrekking.com and it has to be the coolest thing I have ever done. We did the two hour trek on the glacier and when we were done wished that we had done the four hours. The formations on the glacier we really neat and different around every corner. When we take our kids next summer we will try to do both the Ice Trekking(Juneau) and the dog sledding (Skagway). Good luck picking one over the other. Misty Roll Call for the Grandeur 12/18/04. unvrknow Posted June 12, 2004 #3 Share Posted June 12, 2004 When we were trying to decide on excursions we decided on the dogsledding in Skagway with Dolly Varden thinking we would kill two birds with one stone, I don't know how different the glaciers are but there is just so little time to do everything you want. I can;t wait we're leaving 6/26/04 Coral Princess.
Budget Queen Posted June 12, 2004 #4 Share Posted June 12, 2004 Dolly Varden is a booking agent only, who booked with TEMSCO out of Skagway. Yes the glacier dog sledding is more snow. With the different interests- split up and allow both boys their choice. Tours are too excellent to not go if of interest and too costly to go if not the desired trip. whenzuc Posted June 12, 2004 #5 Share Posted June 12, 2004 We are going glacier trekking at Mat-su glacier which is a huge glacier that you can drive to from the anchorage Area. http://www.micaguides.com/hiking.html check out this website. They have great tours. Also, check out the float tour as well. This to me seems like one of the hightlights of our tour in 2 weeks from now.
