Tell me about Royal

Recommended Posts

Hi Folks,

I have so far only been on Carnival cruises. I've been on three total. Loved them all. I have some friends who have been on Royal and they love it as well. So I'm thinking I just may try Royal for my next cruise. I'm assuming they have nightly vegas type shows and comedians same as Carnival right? And I've heard about the ice skating shows as well. Do the wait staff in the dining room perform? I've heard the service is great and food is great also. I have heard a few people say Royal is not a much fun and Carnival is the 'fun ship'. However my DH and I don't go on cruises to get drunk and party hard. We enjoy the shows, the activities and enjoy the ship overall and enjoy visiting the ports, so I don't think we'd be bored at all on Royal. And I know a lot is just personnal opinion and likes and dislikes. I think I'll research some more and when I get down to the nitty gritty and ready to book I may come back here and ask for your opinions or at least let you know which ship I've decided to book. We're not big fussy people who are hard to please so I'm sure we'll love Royal as well.

And I've heard about the ice skating shows as well. Yes on the Voyager and Freedom class that have the ice rinks Do the wait staff in the dining room perform? Yes, but only one or two nights on a long cruise and it is not all the stupid dancing and color wars stuff that Carnival does, which IMO is awful.

I've heard the service is great and food is great also. Service is fantastic and we have loved the food, though it is very subjective topic.

I have heard a few people say Royal is not a much fun and Carnival is the 'fun ship'. There is plenty of fun and a ton of stuff to do, I was bored on our last Carnival cruise. On RCCL I have to decide which thing I am going to do.

Three of my four cruises have been on RCL and I have enjoyed all three. They do have Vegas style shows some nights and other nights do things like the Newlywed Game and my favorite The Quest (an adults only scavenger hunt with fun, but secret twists). There are also evening activities like comedians, karaoke, battle of the sexes etc. There is a disco. A lot of the RCL ships have climbing walls and the larger ones have ice skating rinks, in-line skating, mini-golf, basketball, some even have bungee jumping. There is also an aracade on most of the ships and lots of bars/lounges with different themse (i.e. piano bar, champagne bar, sports bar etc.). All the ships have a casino and a spa/health club. During the day time there are often contests/tournaments (i.e. belly flop or men's leg's contest at the pool, ping-pong tournament, trivia, Bingo etc. No shortage of activities!

I have always received good service and found the food to be very good for dinner and good for breakfast and lunch. As Sue mentioned the waiters do a song/dance routine about twice per 5-7 night cruise. That way the people who enjoy that sort of stuff get to see it but those that find it tacky aren't flooded with it.

Hppay cruising :)

on especially the newer ships there truly is something for everyone...they have all the traditional things a cruise line will have, but having the rock wall that RC ships have, the new large fitness centers, ice rink, boxing ring...and more...they have really expanded the number of people they can reach with the activities they offer...also, something unique for cruise ships like the ice rink allows them to offer special shows, like In the Air (ice show) on Liberty that are a truly unique experience right now on a ship. It seems that RC is just doing more than everyone else to really go out of their way to offer more than the norm

I think you will enjoy a RCI cruise!! For me - I find both RCI and Carnival to be on the same level. Now that may change after I take a 2nd Carnival cruise or it may stay the same! I think I am pretty easy to please though :) I have been on one of RCI's oldest and smallest ships and on one of their newer and bigger ships and had a great time on both!! There are a few things that I missed on RCI that Carnival had - I loved the 24 hr pizza and Carnival has the best pizza so far (IMO) and chocolate milk cartons in the buffet for breakfast and lunch. But I only missed them for a second!! :D I love that RCI has killer chocolate chip cookies all the time!!! For me - there are small and minor differences! Maybe you should base on ship, price, port departure and destinations! Good luck!
