Broadway goes dark

Just an FYI to anyone travelling to New York City in the next few days and holding onto theater tickets. The backstage workers union has gone out on strike, closing most of the shows on Broadway. Check before you head out to the theater. This includes "Wicked", "Mama Mia" and "Phantom" as well as many others.

 

This has nothing to do with the writer's strike in LA, it's just bad timing.

I read on trip advisor that refunds will be given so atleast you won't lose the money spent tickets.

Thankfully, yes, the cost of tickets(less handling fees) will be refunded. Also heard that "Young Frankenstein" and "Mary Poppins" are running as usual. The inside word is that those producers ante'd up to the demands of the stage hands.

 

Again, call your theater before you go there.

I just made my first trip to New York to sail on the Victory last month and enjoyed walking about Times Square and Broadway. (although I did not venture out much...small town girl here)

 

I hope everything is resolved soon.

It was announced today that Broadway would remain dark through Sunday as the stagehands and producer haven't even sceheduled talks yet. I've got to wonder how long this will go on as it's costing the city approximately $12 million in associated revenue a day according to one report I read.

Wanted to follow up and say that a tenetative settlement has been reached by the producers and stage hands. Hopefully this will mean lights going back on down on Broadway.
