arkansastraveler Posted November 11, 2007 #1 Share Posted November 11, 2007 Sitka Secrets and Captain Davey are booked when I will be in Sitka. What other options are available for puffin viewing? Do other independents just appear at the dock to find customers? I really want to see puffins up close.
Dream Fish Posted November 12, 2007 #2 Share Posted November 12, 2007 Most ports have independent charters at or near the docks, if you go that route I would get off the ship as early as possible to look for someone, they'll also book up fast. If you are going to be in Icy Strait there are also puffins in that area and charters that will take you out to see them.
Yukon Posted November 12, 2007 #3 Share Posted November 12, 2007 Picking someone at the dock is risky - I've seen people get badly ripped off on boat tours at Sitka. I know Jim Seeland who does custom tours - http://www.sitkasoundtours.com/ - and you can check other legitimate operators at the Visitors Bureau - http://www.sitka.org/ Murray
