Where to eat in Fort Lauderdale?

We'll be staying at the Renaissance FL and are wondering where a good, casual place to eat is. On the water somewhere would be great!:)

There are some places located on the water taxi route. The water taxi is very close to the Renaissance hotel. Here is the link for the water taxi. Click on map and schedule and there is a list of some dining locations along the route. You would catch the water taxi at stop #7. The ride along the waterway has some very beautiful homes.

This past December we took the water taxi down to Los Olas Riverfront area and had dinner at the Metro Cafe. The food and service was very good. The weather was very nice and we were able to dine outside. Not sure how Los Olas is now but it was in somewhat of a transition last year.

All just footsteps from the the Renaissance

Pazzo’s Cucina Italiano (formerly Tara Steak & Lobster) is right next door to Extended Stay America... [/url]

Carlos and Pepe's (Mexican) & Dirty Harry's (bar with food) are in the same shopping center as Tara. There's also a small diner in that strip mall that I've been told has an excellent breakfast.

Einstein’s Bagels, Coldstone Creamery, Starbucks, Tokyo Sushi and Giorgio’s Pizza are across the street from Holiday Inn Express/Extended Stay America

Bimini Boatyard, H&E Deli and Bravo (great Italian restaurant) and an BonJour French Bakery across the street from Holiday Inn Express/Extended Stay America, and about a block east, opposite the Renaissance Hotel

Budget Car Rental is in the same plaza (Quay Plaza) as Bravo and Bimini Boatyard Restaurants.

Jack Jackson's new restaurant FISH is diagonally across the street from the Renaissance hotel, attached to the Convention Center complex at the entrance to Port Everglades... http://www.fish-fl.com/

Chuck's Steakhouse... and Waxy O’Connor’s are both across the street from Embassy Suites, a long block west of Holiday Inn Express/Extended Stay America

Outback Steakhouse is just west of Embassy Suites next to Hyatt Place (formerly Amerisuites), and Quarterdeck is across the street and a block north of Embassy Suites on Cordova Road, just beyond Winn-Dixie...

Kelly's Landing is a great New England style seafood place in a strip mall on Cordova Road, across the street from Winn-Dixie, next to Crown Liquors.

There are 3 large strip malls around Holiday Inn Express/Extended Stay America - More or less across the street, next door, and behind, as well as several smaller ones. There are at least a dozen other small restaurants scattered throughout those strip malls, plus a number of fast food and carry-out places in the area as well... You'll never go hungry along that section of SE 17th Street, there's something for every taste and budget.

Publix grocery store is in the Harbor Shops strip mall a block south on Cordova Road, behind Embassy Suites. Publix sell beer & wine as well as being very large, very nice grocery stores.

For liquor, beer and wine…Total Wine and More http://www.totalwine.com/ is located next to Publix. This store is to booze what Home Depot is to lumber, it’s huge!!!

For snorkel gear, fins, masks, clothing or any outdoor gear is available at Boaters World, next to Total Wine…http://www.boatersworld.com/

Crown Wine and Spirits is across the street from Embassy Suites, behind the Texaco station, and 67 Wine & Spirits is across the street from Crown.

Winn-Dixie grocery store is across from Crown, and there's a CVS drug store in the same strip mall as 67 Wine & Spirits.

Walgreens drug store is a block east of Holiday Inn Express/Extended Stay America, across the street from the Renaissance hotel.

The restaurants above are just those that you can easily walk to. If you take the Water Taxi you can easily get to dozens more.

The nearest Water Taxi stop is 2 long blocks east, under the SE 17th Street Bridge, in front of the Ft Lauderdale Grande Hotel... http://www.watertaxi.com/FortLauderdale/FLLHome.Asp

It sounds like the Renaissance is a great place to stay too! Which one would suggest, the Renaissance or Marriott Courtyard on the Beach? (I'll be coming with my 15 year old daughters.)

Courtyard is brand new, it's close to the beach and all of the restaurants noted above can be reached from the Courtyard by hoppng on the Sun Trolley that passes by the hotel every 15 minutes Thursday-Sunday.

Hi, Bequia ! I totally forgot about the Sun Trolley and it may be the answer to our dilemma. We are staying at the Marriott Harbor Beach pre-cruise, but still want to walk over to Total Wine for our cruise supplies. We're not sure we will want to walk back, so thought we'd have to call a taxi, BUT can we just flag down the Sun Trolley on 17th if we see one or must we get on and get off at actual bus stops? And is there a charge? I looked at their website and could only find the route and little else. We WILL be there on a Saturday. Thanks so much for all of your great advice!

Bequia,

You have been a great source of information. Thanks!

It sounds like you'd stay at the Courtyard over the Renaissance. The Courtyard is around $50 a night more than Renaissance. But if it's well worth the price, I'm there! We'll only be there for one night.

take the sun trolley each way...50 cents PP per ride...you do NOT want to walk from the marriott to total wine.....TOO FAR unless it isn't real hot and you take water.....i walked from the Renny to the HB Marriott and almost passed out.

(i generally flagged it down at a bus stop, but i think they will stop as long as it is a safe area)

i'm using points to stay at the CY in Janaury. I've stayed at the renaissance...it isnt bad but it needs to be remodeled...it is showing some wear and tear. still nice, and 95% of the staff was great...i just would not eat there...for the prices they charge and the (lack of) service in the restaurant, you can do better.....the food in the bar was better, as was the service. the renaissance is closer to Publix, etc but at least the CY is across from the beach!

LT in OH, you can flag the Sun Trolley down anywhere along the route, get on and off wherever you like. The cost is 50 cents per ride. It will stop right next door to Total Wine in the Harbor Shops. I happened to be at Total Wine this past Saturday to pick up some Cabo Wabo. An hour later I walked out with the Cabo, a case of wine and a half dozen bottles of liquor for holiday gift giving. It's so easy to get lost in that store. :p
