ihhk Posted September 5, 2004 #1 Share Posted September 5, 2004 Hi all, Applied for my passport on 8/11 and got it exactly 3 weeks later through the New Orleans passport office. I thought I would post this info as a guideline for those with enough time and the inclination to get one before sailing. I would highly recommend the passport over ID/Birth Certificates, as I have read about problems/concerns with bringing the BC's (they STAMPED my original BC on a trip to the Dominican Republic and I couldn't be sorrier that my original BC has been 'defiled' in such a way! They won't do this on a ship, but if you take a beach vacation they could.). Besides, you never know when a handsome stranger will invite you to Paris for lunch... gotta be prepared! derf5585 Posted September 5, 2004 #2 Share Posted September 5, 2004 What happens if one is in the "Witness Protection Program" how can they get a passport?
ihhk Posted September 5, 2004 Author #3 Share Posted September 5, 2004 Because SO MANY in the WPP need passports ;) , I'm sure the government issues them in their fake name! Are you in the WPP? How is it?

ihhk Posted September 5, 2004 Author #5 Share Posted September 5, 2004 Intereting read, derf! WPP sounds like a drag! BTW: My initial post might be confusing. I APPLIED for my passport in Detroit and it was PROCESSED through New Orleans (based on the postmark).

tsj Posted September 5, 2004 #8 Share Posted September 5, 2004 We applied at our local post office (Illinois) on August 7th, got our passports on Sept. 3rd. Not bad! Ours also came from New Orleans.
Bunkie103 Posted September 5, 2004 #9 Share Posted September 5, 2004 I applied on 8/24 at our local post office and received my pasport yesterday. I think that must be a record.....11 days door to door. :D
ihhk Posted September 5, 2004 Author #10 Share Posted September 5, 2004 I guess the message here is that you really don't "need" the six weeks they claim it could take. Also, I think if you are travelling sooner rather than later, they bump you to the top of the pile. 11-27 days ... not a bad turn around time! Our government offices hard at work! Bunkie103 Posted September 5, 2004 #11 Share Posted September 5, 2004 Maybe mine came so fast because there is a Passport Office in Philadelphia. I just know I almost fainted at the mailbox.
hstrybuf Posted September 5, 2004 #12 Share Posted September 5, 2004 My DH and I applied in different years and they were processed in two different cities. Both came within 3 weeks of the application date.
Emerald31 Posted September 6, 2004 #13 Share Posted September 6, 2004 We applied for our passports August 3th at our local post office here in Indiana and we received them on August 31st. They came from New Orleans as well. I was surprised to receive them so soon as we were told it would take at least 6 weeks.
