Mexican Riviera shore excursions?

In Cabo there is a snorkle adventure through the ship on the Dancer. We had a wonderful time. Decent snorkel but even better was the crew who made it such a memorable experience.

You might want to check the Ports Of Call boards for more specific information on shorexcursions in Mexico.

We haven't pulled the trigger on any shore excursions yet...

We've never been down the Pacific coast of Mexico and from what I understand the snorkeling is less than stellar (but we'll probably snorkel anyway - even if just to get out on a "smaller" boat - smaller than the "O" anyway...).

We had the very best beach ride ever in Mazatlan with "Randi's Happy Horses". Randi meets you just off the ship - and escorts you ober to Stone island by several modes of transportation. After a ride through a coconut plantation - you have a fantastic ride on a big wide beach....you can run or walk - the guides are fantastic. Went to victors after for great drinks and shrimp....one of our best excursions ever. Say Hi to Randi from the NC gang!

We are in the same boat. I think we nailed it down, but it's hard to make a choice in the Meixcan Riviera. Our other ports of call seemed to have just one excursion that really called out to us. Now it seems either none do, or 3-4 do.

I think in Mazatlan we will just vegetate on Stone Island. PV we are thinking either the zipline, or Jeep tour, or sea tour. In Cabo, we are stuck. Rhino 4x4 tour maybe?

We've booked with Mazatlan Frank on three separate cruises, and I can't speak highly enough of him. The first trip we did the Pacifico Brewery and a short city tour, the second time a long city tour, and this last time, just last month, like billroddy, we went up to the mountains to Copala. All were great tours.

On a funny note, on one of our cruises some people in our roll call did Randi's Happy Horses (which they very much enjoyed), but forgot to bring enough money with them! It wasn't until after the ride they realized their mistake. They told a very funny story about unsuccessfully trying to use an ATM machine, and eventually having to be taken back to the ship by one of Randi's helpers and one of them having to stay outside the ship with Randi's helper while the other went aboard to get the cash!

Are there any shore excursions in Cabo, Puerto Vallarta, or Mazatlan that are "must do" or perhaps noteworthy?

~ Molly

Zip line -- for sure!

I'm very experienced in the mexican riviera -- although all of my trips have been land based private holidays.

If you go to the board that has the mexican riviera ports -- I've posted a lot of info there that might be of interest to you!

If you're tired of Cabo itself and/or have seen all the "sights" there, consider the shorex to Todos Santos. It's about a one hour bus ride up north. Once there, you have time to stroll the town (like all Mexican towns, a nice big ornate church),of course the famous/infamous "Hotel California", supposedly the Eagles named their song after the hotel ("Relax" said the nightman "We are programmed to receive, but you can never leave"), lots of artsy, craftsy galleries, etc.

The excursion includes a nice Mexican lunch with home-made flour tortillas, enchiladas, tamales, and a soft drink and/or cold cerveza in the open air hacienda of a restaurant. On the drive back to town and the dam ship, you might see the spouts of whales over in the Pacific O. A nice excursion overall and something different in tourist-happy Cabo!

Copper 10-8: Was the bus ride to Todos Santos and lunch done on your own, HAL excursion, or arranged through another tour company?

It's a HAL tour arranged through ship's shore excursion (Shorex).

Also for PV, the zip-line experience is great, no doubt about it! They also have an excursion (through Shorex) called "Rhythms of the Night" which takes you on a trimaran to Las Caletas, John Huston's "tropical hideaway" for a nice dinner on the beach followed by a pretty good (choreographed) show at an amphiteather under the stars telling the story of Mexico's ancient civilizations, history and culture. Something different!:)

At Mazatlan we did the ship's tour called Sierra Madre, Concordia and Copala. It was a good value 7 hour bus tour, including a drink at one old colonial small town and nice Mexican lunch at the other town. Also other interesting stops and a very good informative narration en route. We got a good idea of inland old Mexico and took many photos.

At PV we did a fun trip to Yelapa and Majahuitas by boat. This included light breakfast, snorkelling, lunch, a walk to a waterfall, time on the beach and loads of free margaritas plus music and dancing on the way back. You need to be mobile to get on and off boat. We paid through HAL but you can read about it at www.vallarta-adventures.com Sadly it doesn't seem to be available on our Ryndam trip of 12/13/07, presumably as the ship doesn't dock till 10:30 am at PV

----- Hey Copper John!

We're on the Ryndam next week (sail on Tues) and the first stop is Cabo. We're gonna do the Todos Santos tour on your recon. Have to sign off and go to the HAL site to book it. Thanks for the recommendation!

In PV there are a lot of good activities. The zip line is great, swimming with the dolphins is even better and Rhythm of the Night is good too. If you are looking for a good authentic local restaurant, go to Alvarados. It is downtown and where the locals go. If you are there during whale watching time, whale watching is pretty good in both Cabo and PV. Enjoy!

Our kids just got back from their honeymoon to the Mexican Riviera (on a Princess Cruise) and they raved about "Swimming with the Dolphins" that was offered in Puerta Vallarta. They said there were three outfits that did it. They had 45 minutes in the water with the dolphins, playing, learning about them, and riding them (twice) and then they did a show while they were still in the water. They loved it. If you're interested I can find out the outfit they did it with. We want to do the same sometime soon.
