Service on the World

HAPPY RETIREES

Recommended Posts

I cannot confirm from personal experience. I can however, tell you that several have posted live from a World cruise and it is obvious that the entire experience is a step or ten above the typical cruise experience.

Hopefully one of the posters, with experience, will chime in here.

Have a fabulous experience on my favorite ship.

Hi we are on the Amsterdam in Jan. & are really looking forward to it , I understand that the service on their world cruises is a step above norm. Can anyone confirm this ? . Have a nice day now. Graham

Don't know about the world cruise but on our 30 day cruises the service seemed better, maybe because you know the staff better/longer?

BTW we will be in Bora Bora on the Ryndam for one day with the Amsterdam (Jan 23, 2008) on our 1-6-2008 cruise.:D

The Amsterdam is your favorite?

That's fun to hear. The only HAL ship that I'll be able to compare her to is the Volendam a year ago. (which, as you know, we simply adored) :)

When you get a chance.... what makes her special? I'm in a final countdown and the anticipation is killing me. (LOVING IT!!!) :D

Food, entertainment and service are so variable and subjective, I will not even go there. I love how the Amsterdam looks, feels and flows. There have been some 2007 reports that she is showing some wear and tear. That's OK, I do too. :D

I love the Amsterdam too. Could be because it was our first cruise, but I don't think so. I agree with Hammy, it's the look and feel of the ship, and she's got it all. NNN and Happy Retirees you will love the Amsterdam, have a great cruise and tell us all about it :D

Thanks Hammy and Cruising-Along. :)

I promise to give a day-by-day review.... however, it might be posted from Cincinnati, OH. The day after we return from the Amsterdam, I'm flying to enjoy Christmas with my big brother! :D

There will be plenty of pictures. (Of US, and beautiful scenery...I promise not to post pictures of drunken slobs who are playing "dress-up") ;)

I've never been fortunate enough to be on a World Cruise, though I am booked for a Grand Voyage of 66 days in 2009. But, from all the travelogues I've read on these boards, and the literature I've received from various cruise lines (including HAL) about Grand Voyages (of which the World Cruise is one) ... most definitely. Everything is kicked up several notches on Grand Voyages. This is probably because there are more sea days on such trips and thus a need to fill the schedule with lots more to do. So, there are special activities that you won't find on regular cruises, lots of things that are geared toward the various ports being visited. Lots of local entertainment is brought onboard in various ports as well. Also, you will have a full slate of Explorations Speaker Lecturers ... both the destination lecturer assigned to your ship, as well as lots of supplemental lecturers brought on in various ports as the voyage progresses.

Service will be a cut above because supposedly HAL handpicks the staff and crew for these extended voyages. Only the best get to go supposedly. There will be lots of variety on the menus since the voyage is a long one ... and from what I understand, very few will repeat within the same segment.

I can't wait to do my first Grand Voyage. The World Cruise is the pinnacle of those, so you should have an awesome trip! If you can find it in your schedule, it would be wonderful if you could post here, or set up a blog, so that we can read about your adventures as they occur.

Blue skies!

The World is definately a notch higher all the way around. Starting with the staff, All Holland staff are wonderful, but on the World a notch above wonderful, having done this trip quite a few times we see the same people, staff and guests and it is like coming home every time you step onboard. Food outstanding, service amazing, speakers wonderful, casino depends on the hour should I say minute!!!!! The ship is wonderful great space and comfort throughout. Entertainment is good (we dont go to many shows) Everyone does dress according to the evening events. They shower you with gifts arriving in each different country. I would recommend any time you can do a segment of the World or the whole thing, it is deffinately a wonderful experience. Conting the days will we leave on the 4th. Jan. Happy sailing to everyone. Dear Happy Retirees,

We have a thread for 08 world cruise on the HAL roll call board. There is a fine group of folks who have posted. Our first meet and greet is on Jan 5 at 10:30 AM in the Crow's Nest. Our leader is JOHNNY B—Dianne. So come on over to the board and join our group! We even have two CC trivia teams all set up on the thread!

Yes, the service is excellent. For example, the waiters on the Lido line up at the end of the buffet to take your tray to the table for you. It is rare that you ever have to manipulate it yourself.

Example #2: We love blueberries for breakfast. As soon as one of the gentlemen behind the counter saw us coming, he would start filling up bowls of berries for us!

This will be our second full world cruise, and we are so excited that we have begun to pack already!

Thank you all for your comments. re. the 2008 world cruise.

We are not very good at this computer stuff!!! but have found your comments very useful. Our longest cruise has been 37 days, so this one sounds like a marathon. We will be in the Crows nest at 10:30 am to meet and greet our c.c. new friends.

We are so looking forward to this trip.

Regards Aileen and Graham.

Dear Aileen,

Our cabin is 6204, so give a call when you get on board. Sometimes, the Bev Manager who is in charge of our meet and greets has to change the timing, and based on last year that could happen again.

CC is a great contact on board for the world cruise. We will probably get together also for lunch from time to time, as we did last year, which strengthens the contacts! Our leader, as I mentioned, is Diane, who is on another cruise right now. By the way, we have other Canadians in our group.

Hi Dorothy,

Not a cruise - just sitting here in our (rented) apartment in Paris reading CC entries. We spent two days in London (saw Patrick Stewart in Macbeth) and then came to Paris yesterday. After a week here, we'll be back to London for two days and then home on the 28th. It's just a reward for my hard work the first third of the school year being a long-term sub. See you in January.

Diane

Have a Happy Thanksgiving, John and Diane, and enjoy Paris and London! I have already begun to pack for our January 2 fly-out to Lauderdale. The luggage service will pick up most of our belongings on Dec 14, so I have been collecting "stuff." Tonight I ironed our jeans, all ready to wear on the plane down.

We will have to add Happy Retirees to our CC list! We are going to have a grand time together.
