Excursions on South American Voyage

My friend and I are wondering if anyone could recommend which Oceania excursions to book and what could be done on our own. Thanks.

Virtually all excursions can be done on your own, depending on how much research you want to do. Do you want to go off completely on your own OR are you looking for recommendations for private guides?

 

Because there is more than one South American itinerary, it would help if you could list which ports you'll be visiting.

If you are going to Punta Arenas, Puerto Montt, Buenos Aires and Valpariso then I can give you the names of the Private Guides we used in January, 2006.

 

They were all excellent, you didn't need to pay up front and they all spoke good English.

We shared each of these tours with one other couple and found the guides to all be very personable and prompt in their replies to our emails.

Thanks for the information. The cruise is from Valparaiso to Buenos Aires. Is there an excursion that we should book thru' Oceania or can we do everything on our own. Is there an excursion that we should not miss?

If you visit Punta Arenas, I would definitely go and see the penguins either at Magdalena and Santa Marta Islands or Otway Bay. We went to Otway Bay which is very windy and exposed but well worth the visit.

Also when in Puerto Montt visit the Emerald Lake, the Petrohoe waterfall and see the volcano.
