swimsimcoe Posted November 26, 2007 #1 Share Posted November 26, 2007 Can anyone tell me if you can walk from the ship to the downtown area on Grand Turk or do you need a taxi? Love to walk everywhere but travelling with someone who just broke a bone in foot and has walking air cast. Thanks.
noblepa Posted November 26, 2007 #2 Share Posted November 26, 2007 You could probably do it, if you're in good shape and have time. When we were there last April, it was very, very hot. IIRC, it was in the mid-nineties. Just walking around the "downtown" area got to be pretty unbearable. We took the "Guana" hop-on-off bus. At $39 pp, it was a little expensive for what we got, but the a/c was a godsend. I don't think I would try to walk, even with two good feet. With one foot in a walking cast, absolutely not. noblepa Posted November 26, 2007 #3 Share Posted November 26, 2007 I just checked the map at http://www.grandturkcc.com. It appears from that map that it is about three miles from the cruise terminal to the downtown area. I certainly wouldn't walk that far, in that heat. Even if you can do it, that's almost an hour's walk, each way.

cnvh Posted November 26, 2007 #5 Share Posted November 26, 2007 Governor's Beach is an easy walk from the terminal (at least, if your foot isn't broken), maybe half a mile one-way... we didn't go into town, but it would be a hike, and the roads are fairly narrow-- and yes, it's HOT. :) You can always take a taxi INTO town, keep an eye on the road and distance, and decide later if you want to walk back; that's what we did when we went to Governor's Beach. paradisegal Posted November 27, 2007 #6 Share Posted November 27, 2007 We took a taxi. 5 bucks per person each way.......with a broken foot its too far of a walk, heck with a good foot its a long way!
waynebrian Posted November 28, 2007 #7 Share Posted November 28, 2007 we hired bicycles at the port and rode them into the town. i can't recall what we paid, sorry. it was hot but was nice to be able to have the mobility to go wherever we wanted. it is small. on another trip we did a dune buggy excursion which was a lot of fun but there was dust EVERYWHERE. SandRaven Posted November 28, 2007 #8 Share Posted November 28, 2007 If you're walking to Governors Beach, can you walk north from the cruise pier on the sand, or would you need to take the road?
