bfkkbc Posted December 3, 2007 #1 Share Posted December 3, 2007 11/26-12/1/07 DH and I had a super time!! DH wasn't too thrilled about going but now he is all about " When can we book our next one and where do you want to go!!" Go figure!! Anyway.... We just had a inside 4a and it was plenty for just the 2 of us!! The food was fantastic and Joseph the Maitre 'd was out of this world. He made the Vista dining room an adventure. Our servers were Sherwen and Ika. They were quite entertaining with all of their napkin animals and toothpick puzzles. The first night in the dining room everyone just wore pretty much what they wanted and then Joseph made the announcement that the only thing he wanted as far as dress code was that the men had to wear long pants. There were people in all sort of dress from the all decked out to the extreme casual. I never met our room stewards. I saw three guys in the halls a couple of times and they were very friendly but no one introduced theirselves. Whoever they were they were extremely efficiant and perfectionists!!! THis was our first cruise so we didn't have anything else to compare it to, but I couldn't imagine being on a ship any larger. This was plenty for me!!! We stopped in Key West, ate at Sloppy Joe's , had Key lime pie on a stick, took the trolly tour, and by that time it was time to get back on the boat. I only wish they were docked there longer. Then it was off to Nassau. I had never been out of the country, so I was quite nervous!! We did take a tour of the city, and Atlantis. Then we went to the British Colonial for a day pass. It was so funny but I got into the ocean at the BC and the water was FREEZING!!! It was 88 outside and I was in the Carribean in the sun with chicken skin!!! That could only happen to me!!:p The staff at the BC were very nice I highly recommend it. Getting on and off the ship couldn't have been easier. These people had everything down to a science. We got to the port at 11:15 and were on the boat by 12 noon with a DOD in my hand. Room was ready by 1:30 as promised. We did the self assist disembarking (?) and we were off the ship by 9:30 or so. It was a fantastic vacation and I can't wait to go again. Thanks to all of you who made this a very smooth experience by lending me all of your wisdom and knowledge. I can only hope to repay the debt sometime for another newbie!!;)
oceanfear Posted December 3, 2007 #2 Share Posted December 3, 2007 I have no idea what to ask or how to navigate these postings yet. I am going to be on the Celebration Christmas cruise. I am nervous but I am told I will have oodles of fun. A friend and experienced cruiser has introduced me to these boards and I am hoping to find others that are going to be on the same cruise. jmss1950 Posted December 3, 2007 #3 Share Posted December 3, 2007 :) Pleased to see another new cruising convert, and delighted that you had a great cruise. The Celebration is a great old ship and we can hardly wait for our 12/24 five day cruise. This will be our second Christmas cruise on the Celebration and I have to agree that Joseph is the very best maitre'd we have had in all our 12 cruises and that includes Disney, Carnival, Celebrity, Princess and Holland America. If you try one of the larger, newer ships you will find even more to do and there are some fantastic ports our there. We started cruising with a three day Disney cruise and have now worked our way up to some 8 day cruises. If we didn't have to go to work, we would try the even longer ones. Cruising really gets you hooked. Happy cruising.:)
Rare Captain Funtime Posted December 3, 2007 #4 Share Posted December 3, 2007 While Celebration is small....it is a SHIP not a boat. Sailing on Celebration on 12.10. Have been on same size Celebrity ship and it was just dandy. :)

Hi and welcome to cruise critic. Is your Celebration cruise going to stop in Key West? They change week from week. I have been on the Celebration, and the stop in Key West is one of Carnivals best. There is so much to see there, make sure you get and early start.
bfkkbc Posted December 3, 2007 Author #7 Share Posted December 3, 2007 Thanks for the great review! I'll be on her next week. Glad to hear about the warm weather. We hope to come back with a tan. How did you get to Atlantis (walking or taxi)? We took a taxi/tour but you can get a taxi for about 4.00 per person to take you there and drop you off

Djptcp Posted December 3, 2007 #10 Share Posted December 3, 2007 Glad you had a great time! DH and I have sailed on the Celebration 3 times in the past year-and-a-half and loved it. Did the 4-day twice and the 5-day once. We live close to Jacksonville and it was so convenient. We prefer 7-day cruises, but the shorter Celebration cruises were fun to do in between our longer ones. She will leave Jax in 2008 and Carnival is moving the Fascination to Jax. Key West is so-so, but we love Nassau. If you go again, instead of going to Atlantis to gamble, we always go to the Crystal Palace Casino at the Wyndham Resort on Cable Beach. We found Atlantis way too crowded and the minimum bets were too high, much more reasonable at Crystal Palace. Lots of penny slots, too. We've only had Joseph once as our maitre'd on the Celebration and he was great.
Vidimom Posted December 4, 2007 #11 Share Posted December 4, 2007 Glad you enjoyed your first cruise. Welcome to the world of cruise addicts! My DD and I will be leaving 12/15 on the Celebration. How was the entertainment and the casino? We are just looking forward to getting away! Any comments on the food? Thank you for the very nice review! Vidimom Posted December 4, 2007 #12 Share Posted December 4, 2007 If you still have your capers, can you check and see who the comedian is on board. I am hoping Kim Harrison is on board the Celebration. She has been on the ship a lot this year and we are hoping she will be on our cruise in less than 2 weeks. Any info would be appreciated! Rare Captain Funtime Posted December 4, 2007 #13 Share Posted December 4, 2007 12.10 My favorite place in KW is Irish Kevin's on Duval Street. It is a do not miss. The best way to Atlantis is the cheapo water taxi at the pier.... Taxi is $$$ See you at Irish Kevin's ! :)
almapsy Posted December 4, 2007 #14 Share Posted December 4, 2007 water taxi at the pier? how do you do that and how much is it? do you know if kids can go on it? thanks for the info, we are trying to see Atlantis.
Rare Captain Funtime Posted December 4, 2007 #15 Share Posted December 4, 2007 Almapsy.... I haven't been to Nassau in a few but there was a water taxi right at the pier that offered reasonable transport to Atlantis. I believe there were kids on board. I have taken a taxi and it was per person and a rip-off. Problem with Atlantis...you can see it but it would be a long walk due to the water. f s f :D
