charge for gratuities pre cruise

I placed a deposit on a 2009 RCCL cruise and was advised that when my final payment was due in Sept 2008 I would be charged both for the fuel surcharge and the gratuities at that time. Is this unique to RCCL? - on other recent cruises (Princess and Carnival) gratuities were charged to my account while on board. Seems to be a bit grasping of RCCL

Who gave you that info? TA or RCCL? As far as RCCL is concerned those fuel charges will be put on your invoice as soon as they get to 2009 sailings. For tips you can choose to put them on at final payment, OR you can wait and add them on the ship OR you can pay them in cash. Whomever gave you that info was not correct. Also when in 2009 are you sailing? Payment is due 70days before so I don't know why you would have to pay in Sept 2008
