French Doors?

Recommended Posts

Just upgraded from interior to partially obstructed room with french doors. TA said you can open them but there is no balcony just a railing. Has anyone had experience with this type of room and if so what was your opinion?

Great cabins on the Spirit Class ships, there is a Life Boat blocking your view. Those are Cat.5a cabins.

I've received it as a FREE upgrade on the PRIDE once. IMHO, since you asked, its certainly not worth paying extra money for. I was moved from an inside, but I would rank an oceanview cabin above the 5A French doors, no balcony, looking straight at lifeboats (although in my particular case I could see between them a little).

The only oceanview rooms available were below the casino. I didn't think that would be to great since I am a light sleeper. We only paid $40 total extra for all 4 of us to go from deck one to deck 4 which is between shops (deck 3) and passengers (deck 5). As long as I get extra light even if I don't have a view I will be ok. I thought it would be nice to open the doors and get fresh sea air in the mornings.

If your door is between life boats you will have a better view, but on the flip side you get more of the Davit Wire Grease odor that smells pretty bad if you open the doors.

I had cabin 4200 on the Pride which has the french doors. I thought it was nice to be able to open the doors and get some fresh air. I was smack dab in the middle of a life boat so didn't have a view of the ocean. I booked a 1a so got this as an upgrade. I did prefer my balcony on the Pride the first time but this cabin was great for the upgrade that it was.

I would GUESS that the oceanview cabins get MORE LIGHT than the 5A obstructed view cabins. The fresh air idea is a good idea I guess (never gave it much thought). There is no view, unless you're lucky enough to get a cabin which give a slight (est. 4') view of the sea between the lifeboats. I'm a night owl and a sound sleeper, so I was seldom in my cabin when the casino was open. To each his own. :)

The thing that I liked most about this cabin on the PRIDE was listening to the ship plowing through the sea at night. ;)

We were upgraded to a cabin like this on the Miracle out of Tampa in 2005. Indeed, the doors can be opened. There is a railing. Hubby and I both enjoyed this nice surprise upgrade and have even decided to go 1 step further for our Glory cruise in 2008 and have gone ahead and booked a balcony cabin. I think you will be pleasantly surprised !!!!!!
