dissappointed in atlantis

We went by taxi to the atlantis and the only thing you could do was look at part of the aquarium. The Sheraton hotel was a good walk away and we met some fellow cruiers comming back that said you are treated rudely if you are not staying there. So hide your towels with the name of your cruise ship name. We decided after talking to them that it wasn't worth the hassle for the short amount of time we had. Should have taken an excursion at this port.

Sorry to hear that. I am going on a cruise in a couple of weeks and was planning on going to the Sheraton to access the beach, but now I am having second thoughts. I am thinking about going to the British Colonial Hilton. I hear they allow people who do not stay use the beach for a fee. Or find an excursion that includes a beach. Hate to pay all that money just to sit on a beach.

You might want to consider the Cable Beach area. I sent an e-mail to Wyndham Nassau Resort and received this reply:

"Yes you may use our pool, but bring your own towel and feel free to visit our 35,000 sq. ft. casino or eat in one of our restaurants. Next door is the Nassau Beach Hotel which is our sister property. They have all non-motorized sports available to rent if you would like."

Sheraton is closing soon. Might want to check the dates. They were bought by another company and are closing for a year to redo the interior.

Their whole staff is looking for work now. I'm sorry I don't know the exact date.

We had the same experience with Atlantis. We felt they were rude and we asked for directions to find the aquariums and they gave us the most pitiful answers. There were security guards at every entrance to make sure that no one went out on the beach or to the pool other than guests. I understand why they do this and I don't fault them at all. When people pay as much as they do to stay there they want a quiet experience, uncrowded by thousands of cruise ship passengers. But to anyone who is thinking of going it on their own in Nassau and planning to go to Paradise Island, I'd recommend one of the ship's excursions. My niece is a dancer on Celebrity and they go to Cable Beach while in port and she has said its gorgeous and free. I haven't been yet, though.

Neither Atlantis nor the individual Cable Beach hotels are going to be happy providing free onshore entertainment to what some days amount to 15,000 passengers or more in port.

On the other hand, all beaches are public here - at least up to the high water line - and there's nothing stopping you from walking the beaches in front of any property ... including Atlantis and the Cable Beach Hotels. Just don't force your way from the beach onto the property. It's not fair to paying guests, as has been observed.

Having said all that, there are plenty places to go and enjoy the beach, snorkelling, etc. Poke around on here for next time.
