janikh Posted December 14, 2007 #1 Share Posted December 14, 2007 I have noticed that, in a few of the ports, they request "biodegradeable" suntan lotion. I think that Stingray City was one of those. Does anyone know of a particular brand? Or what makes regular suntan lotion not biodegradeable? We don't want to get there & be told that ours is not good! runner15km Posted December 14, 2007 #2 Share Posted December 14, 2007 We went on a Carnival trip to SRC and the guide never mentioned anything about suntan lotion. We were told that we could not wear aqua socks or water shoes when in the water with the rays.
iglvr Posted December 15, 2007 #3 Share Posted December 15, 2007 I ordered "Mexitan" biodegradable sunblock online for around $8.95 for 8 oz(sorry I don't have the link but you can Google it). It's a water resistant SPF 30 with no chemicals. To be considered biodegradable, the ingredients should be zinc oxide and/or titanium dioxide. This product had both. I bought it for use at Chankanaab for the dolphin swim and also for snorkeling. I was pleased with the product and actually prefer the no chemical sunblock due to my sensitive skin. Also, it's safe for the environment and sea life so it just makes good sense to use a sunblock that doesn't contain chemicals:D
birdergal Posted December 15, 2007 #4 Share Posted December 15, 2007 Just went to Stingray City last week with Capt Marvins and they never questioned what suntan lotion we were using.
janikh Posted December 16, 2007 Author #5 Share Posted December 16, 2007 Thanks for the info! If I decide to go with the "environmentally safe" stuff, I may try to find the one you are talking about. But if no one is really saying anythng, then I'll just go with good ol' Ocean Potion!
