Sardinia - has anyone visited Maddalena Island(s)

We're interested in visiting Maddalena Island, a natural national park area, when our cruise ship stops in Olbia/Porto Cervo, Sardinia, next May 1. Has anybody done this? How do you get to Palau to catch the ferry, and what do you do/how do you get around on the island? The ship is in port from 8 AM to 6 PM.
