Sue's Mom Posted September 10, 2004 #1 Share Posted September 10, 2004 Our Volendam cruise on Nov. 26 has no category K rooms left but there does seem to be a large number of outside rooms available on most decks. If this did not change much at the time of sailing, what would happen - would the outside rooms be left empty or would some passengers be upgraded? I would quite like an upgrade but not to a room at the bow or the stern.
Krazy Kruizers Posted September 10, 2004 #2 Share Posted September 10, 2004 It's pretty much up to HAL what they want to do. HAL may ask some of the lower categories if they are willing to pay so many dollars for an up-grade. On a couple of cruises we have had suites empty around us. On one cruise, we had an emergency medical on the ship, a medical crew was lowered to the deck, stabilzed the patient, and left behind. The winds and rain were so bad that they didn't want to risk getting a second person off the ship - soonly the patient was hoisted up. The only cabin empty was a suite - the medical man had to stay there for a couple of days till we got to our next port. Another time, about the 3rd day into a cruise, the purser moved into the suite next to us for a couple of weeks. This is why we all say - don't count on the up-grade fairy always working. Orcrone Posted September 10, 2004 #3 Share Posted September 10, 2004 Sue's Mom, Keep in mind that the ship may not be as empty as it seems. They could have many inside guarantees booked, thus overbooking those rooms. This would necessitate them upgrading people from their inside guarantees to an outside room.
