A little HAL trivia

Vicar

Recommended Posts

Don't ask me why this suddenly popped into my head *LOL*

But I just remembered a jingle on an old HAL commercial from years ago, when I was a kid.

It was to the tune of 'Lets Call the Whole Thing off'

It went something like this:

"You say Rotterdam, and I say Amsterdam"

"You say Statendam, and I say Westerdam "

"Rotterdam, Amsterdam, Statendam, Westerdam"

"Lets take a Holland America Cruise"

Please tell me that someone remembers this jingle and that I am not crazy *LOL*

*LOL*

I admit that I am crazy, i just wanted to make sure that I wasn't the only one hearing the Jingle in my head.

See I hear voices , but they sound like Sir John Geilgud and Ethel Merman

You try and live with Satanic Messages that are both dramatic and play to the back row *LOL*

Sorry, but it sparks no memories. Of course, I was in college in the 60's and some of those experiences wiped out all previous memory. :)

If you can remember the 60's then you weren't there - Robin Williams

It could well be during the time HAL was known as Holland America Cruises. I just ran across a matchbook with that name and I have one of their canvas bags with the same name on it.

You say Amster

And I say Rotter.

You like 'Laska

Carib is hotter.

Prinsen, Volen, Zuider, Ooster,

Let's call our TA now.

Ah yes -- I remember it well (as Maurice Chevalier would sing).

You say eether, and I say it's eIther, you say neether and I say neIther...

tomaytoes, tomahtoes, potaytoes, potahtoes, let's call the whole thing off.

Slinkie (not really crazy, yet, but old enough to know that song)

VICAR:

I don't remember it but in the Midwest HAL probably wasn't advertising in those days. It doesn't mean you are crazy but blessed with a good memory.

By the way, whose Vicar are you? Are you an urban vicar, a parochial vicar, a rural vicar, a suburban vicar?

Slainte!
