singjenn Posted December 29, 2007 #1 Share Posted December 29, 2007 I am looking at going to Cemetery beach in February. I want to snorkel at the shipwreck and I read that Cemetery Beach is a nice beach (plus I have seen some pretty pictures). Is it safe to walk there down the road from where the tender boats drop you off? Can you walk to it on the beach or do some resorts have there areas roped off so you can't pass through? I think you're mixing up several places. The Cali shipwreck is very close (just to the north) to where the tender dropoff is located, but it is "Iron Shore", not a beach. Eden Rock is a very short walk south with good snorkeling, but also iron shore. Cemetery Beach is several miles north at the very far end of 7 Mile Beach. Walk 3 blocks inland from the tender docks to the bus station for a cheap ride to Cemetery Beach.
runner15km Posted December 30, 2007 #3 Share Posted December 30, 2007 Well if you are a runner, it's about 35 minutes from the pier. No problem mon.:D
twinkletoes4445 Posted December 30, 2007 #4 Share Posted December 30, 2007 Is it safe to walk there down the road from where the tender boats drop you off? It's safe to wander around all roads on this island. Just keep an eye on the traffic since they drive on the opposite side of the road, but as other posters have mentioned, it's too far to walk to cemetery beach. But anywhere you choose to walk to will be a safe outing for you. :)

I know that the wreck of the Cali is at Eden's Rock, but isn't the wreck of the Gama at Cemetery Beach? Or maybe near it? i really want to go there. If we get someone to take us to the beach how can we get back?

More bus info: http://www.grandcayman4u.com/transport/buses.htm The bus will pick you up where you're dropped off, they run pretty regularly, or if you get impatient you can flag down a passing taxi that's returning from West Bay. The Gamma wreck is at the south end of 7 Mile beach, Cemetery Beach is at the north end. Here's a group of detailed Grand Cayman maps: http://www.caymanlandinfo.ky/imagemapfiles/gcindex.htm Here's a closeup of the area south of 7MB http://caymanislandsdiscounts.com/GTSnorkel_Map.jpg Here's a closeup of the area north of 7MB http://caymanislandsdiscounts.com/WBSnorkel.jpg

I have read alot of post that say that the entrance to Gamma is at a cemetery. What's the difference between Cemetery Reef and Cemetery Beach? What's the difference between Cemetery Reef and Cemetery Beach? Follow this link and click on Map #26. http://www.caymanlandinfo.ky/imagemapfiles/gcindex.htm Scroll to the top of that map, you'll see a small black cross on the beach side across from the Esso station. Grid A-9. That is the cemetery you've seen mentioned on the walk to the wreck of the Gamma. There is a small "beach" next to the Gamma wreck entry, but I wouldn't find it relaxing. Someone else's photo of the Gamma entry here: http://travel.webshots.com/photo/2398323360052490231PBBAZI Cemetery Beach is more than 5 miles north from that spot, See Map # 11, Grid reference G-4 Someone else's photo of Cemetery Beach here: http://travel.webshots.com/photo/2963025820059470545ASlixs

I saw on a map somwhere that Cemetery Beach is south of the terminal area. Is that right?

Not that I've ever read/heard. I saw on a map somwhere that Cemetery Beach is south of the terminal area. Is that right? Nope, go north 6 miles or so.
