justacruisin Posted June 15, 2004 #1 Share Posted June 15, 2004 Has anyone snorkeled here? If so, is it any good?
scubagirrl Posted June 16, 2004 #2 Share Posted June 16, 2004 No great snorkeling at BlackBeards Cay.. it's mostly sea grass. But it's a nice afternoon at the beach.
cruzn buckeye Posted June 17, 2004 #3 Share Posted June 17, 2004 Is it seagrass when you go out into the water or soft sand?
scubagirrl Posted June 17, 2004 #4 Share Posted June 17, 2004 Theres' 20-30 feet of good soft sand before you hit sea grass... in very soft sand.. Great for beaching... not great to snorkel. The back side of the island is leased by SANDALS resort. Snorkeling is better, but it's private. You might be able to "wander" over that way. cruzn buckeye Posted June 18, 2004 #5 Share Posted June 18, 2004 Thanks Scubagirl! We will be in Nassau from 11a.m-3a.m. We are looking for a good beach day. We considered the YellowBird party boat but read that it has a sliver of a beach. We even considered an excursion to an outisland with SeaIsland Adventures but are not to sure about the safety issue. I have been trying to find pictures of Pearl Island where the party boat goes and can't find any.
scubagirrl Posted June 18, 2004 #6 Share Posted June 18, 2004 If your timeline permits a trip to Rose Island, by all means.. DO IT. Rose Island is a safe little hideaway, and most cruisefolks don't have time for this all day trip.. So there aren't alot of tourists. It's my favorite spot. cruzn buckeye Posted June 18, 2004 #7 Share Posted June 18, 2004 Tell me about Rose Island! Does it have a soft sandy beach? Are there facilities there? How long does it take to get there? Thanks...you are so much help to everybody on these boards!
scubagirrl Posted June 19, 2004 #8 Share Posted June 19, 2004 http://www.bahamas-treasures.com/bahamas/Photo2000.html Check out the post above.. The upper and lower photos are Rose Island. Its sandy, primitive and serene. They have facilities with plumbing, a small bar/gift shop. It's about a 30 minute relaxing cruise to the island. B
Barefoot Cruises (http://www.barefootsailingcruises.com/) might be a good bet for you if you have the time. They are a small outfit, very low keyed, and they take you out to the reef at Rose Island. Since Rose Island is a private island, you will need to go with a tour. It's about 30 minutes from the east end of Paradise Island. I don't think the cruiselines have a trip to Rose Island, it's usually an all day thing.
