I have not been able to get through the whole thread yet, but wanted to ask the question. Are you on the Liberty now??? will you be on there in September. That's when me and a few other friends are going on our girls cruise. So I didn't know if you would be the DJ or not. We are all ready to PARTY!!!!!! Thanks in advance even if you are not going to be on there.

I looked at your signature and realized you will just be leaving the ship when we go. BUMMER! But thanks anyways!:D

Simon,

What ship are you on? We will be going on the Spirit Mar 5 and I would love to see what kind of setup you guys have on board. I admin the North, South and Central America portion of the network (a truly global network) for my company and just professionally curious. I would love to see how the bridge interfaces in modern ships. It has always interested me how back when sails were the thing they used a sextant and now I suyppose we use GPS or some such. I'm sure most stuff is out of bounds for passengers, but I'd even just love to pick your brains over a drink or something.

Mike

Unfortunetely, I am not on the Spirit. The IS Office is classified as a restricted area so getting in would be difficult. You can have a look at the Microsoft website, there are at least two case studies of Carnival.

Do you DJ's get irritated by a lot of song requests?

Do the disco's ever do theme nights i.e., 80's night?

(If you know) how current is the karaoke catalog? Does it include all genres and current hits?

Thanks!

Yes us DJs do get bored of some of the songs... not neccesarily irritated, unless it's someone with a bad attitude or they're really drunk... that's always fun

Some disco's have theme nights, depends on the ship and the "usual" clientele on that ship. On the Liberty there is a 70's & 80's flashback night, the best and worst of the 70's & 80's all night long. We also have happy hours with discounted drinks at the bar and motown, latin & reggae/soca music.

I don't know anything about the karaoke CDs i'm afraid (karaoke is one of my pet hates so I definitely couldn't be a karaoke host)

DJ, Thanks for all the good info. Could you give us more info on why you don't like Colon, Panama. When we were there it was a sunday, we were with an excursion. We loved it. We saw the country side and the Black Messiah. Mostly the people we saw were women and children. It is that rough?

Colon is not a nice place which is why I would advise to do a ship excursion in this port of call. Most people go to see the Panama Canal anyway but it is not a nice pictureque place so if you do wonder out & something happens don't say I didn't warn ya

What are YOUR favorite 3 songs to play??

Ones you could listen to over and over without getting sick of them?

my 3 favourite songs... on the ship or personally???

On the ship... hmm I don't like much of the music I play on the ship actually, rap all sounds the same to me, the ones I like I can get away with...

1. Bob Sinclar - Love Generation

2. Timbaland - The Way I Are

3. Kurtis Blow - The Breaks

Personally... sorry, these are house music tracks

1. Peyton - I'll Rise (Eric Kupper Mix), my funeral song

2. Cassius - 1999

3. The Lawyer - I Wanna Mmm Mmm I

I play those 3 every house set I do (in a house club of course, not on a ship)

I see you are coming off of vacation in a few days. Does this depress you at all, or are you excited to get back onboard?

I am glad to be going back on a ship in some ways... I don't particularly like England anymore, it was a great little country but now it's all about the big brother rip-off britain agenda and I don't like or agree with it.

I will miss my family & friends and will miss certain things (only a few) about the UK.

I read your post about favorite places to eat at ports........I've never thought about it until youu mentioned it. I've had such great service from the wait staff on the ship, I would be more than happy to take THEM out to their favorite place in port......my treat ! Just my way of saying thanks. Would they go ? How do I pose the question ?

Looks like I was late getting to this post.. But read through every post.. Thanks for answering all these questions.. So far all my experiences with Carnival have been wonderful to great. Even they have treaded my parents well on there lasted cruise. It was there 40th anniversay. I wrote a letter to the Captain of the Valor asking him if he could invite my parents to the captains dinner.

I was on the Fascination when I was trying to route this letter to the Valor. Well I never though it would work. But it did and my dad got asked up the bridge of all places.. It was great that Carnival and the Captain did the request. Its amazing when a BIG corporation follows through on something like that.. My dad is a captain on a merchant marine ship so thats probably why the captain did that and not the dinner.. But it work out either way..

I do have a questions for you though, if you can get to it before you leave. What is the percentage of people that work on the ships makes a career of it?

Thanks for you informative tread. Hopefully you will come back..

I know this is a very kind suggestion, whether they would take you up on iy is another question. It depends firstly if they can get time off in the ports of call , also although it is not against the rules to spend time in ports with guests it can be frowned upon for crewmembers. I know it sounds silly but sometimes it can. The crew most likely have their own plans for the ports so they may not be able to oblige.

I don't know the % but the cruise staff (social hosts etc) can become asst cruise director then cruise director if they so wish. Musicians can become music director, dancers to dance captain, pursers to chief purser & eventually hotel director. In f&b, bar waiters to bartenders then asst bar amanger & bar manager, waiter to headwaiter, asst maitre d then maitre d.

There are definitely career progress opportunities if people wish to do this. I would say the majority probably just do it for a few years for the money & travelling experience.

Hey DJ EDDY, thnaks for taking you time to answer all these questions.

My question is related to the ship, Can you explain the ship codes like

Code Alpha

Code Bravo-- FIRE

Code Charlie

and so on

thanks

I'm afraid I can't say what the different codes mean, we're not supposed to give that information out... the codes are so that guests are not aware of things and and so no panic is caused. I can tell you that in the codes you mentioned, there is no charlie & bravo is not for fire.

Have a safe trip and a good contract Eddy!

Alpha is a medical emergency. They'll say something like "Alpha Alpha Alpha - Casino Casino Casino" ... I use that example because I personally witnessed that one before. In fact, one one of our RCI cruises there were 3 Alpha's in one week, so unless it varies from line to line I can tell you with great certainty that Alpha is medical emergency. One of the Alpha's on that cruise was, unfortunately, a cardiac arrest. It was later announced that the patient did make it thankfully.

Not that I want to question Eddy, but on our last RCI cruise the crew was doing a FIRE drill (and we were a little late getting off to port that day) and the call was "BRAVO BRAVO BRAVO - Engine Room" .... so draw your own conclusions.

Oscar is man overboard. That's been reported on these boards before by people who witnessed an "Oscar -- Port Side," or something to that effect.

Yes, but as you might notice, Eddy is on Carnival, not RCI. Wouldn't surprise me in the least if the codes are different between the two.
