whats GREAT for you when cruising???

I was wondering what are the standout thing for you when you go on a cruise???

A number of things stand out for me...

* Quiet walk on sunset or moonlight stroll on a warm evening, chatting to my partner about whatever... so romantic and I am not a romantic at heart but oh my, does the sea / moon turn it on or what, really sets the mood like nothing else... the clean ocean air and atmosphere when you get the occasional private moment on a ship is something else, if you have experienced it I need to explain no more...

* Going to sleep with a smile on my face after a great day (in many ways) and feeling the ship moving / rocking me off to sleep...

* Waking up in some new port with a day full of exciting activities planned.

* Knowing when you might be tired or even not feeling well that for ONCE there will be no cleaning up to do before bed :)

* Getting half way through a cruise and realising food is no longer so attractive, no matter how impressive the presentation or quality - this is the rare acceptance of 'cuisine satisfaction', only to be found on a good cruise ship!

* Meeting so many lovely new people, sharing stories and the experience.

* Finally, departing a ship - ok this one will take some explaining!!! Yes this can be very sad in the most part however just knowing no other holiday could have fulfilled both the kids, DW and myself with so much pure fun and excellent memories.

* Finally booking the next cruise :) :) :) what a buzz !

Just as you pull away from port, just those few centimeters and knowing that you wont be back for how many days.

The first day at sea waking up to see the ocean out of your window.

standing at the front of the ship and looking at the ocean/ the sun setting.

the ship rocking you to sleep

It's not only the Mum's that don't miss that..... :D

As well as the practical bonuses above, I just love being mid ocean surrounded by the lovely blue sea.

  • Standing at the front of the ship, feeling the wind and watching the water.
  • Sitting out the back deck, watching the sun go down, and the wash of the ship behind us, leaving our worries behind.
  • The deep purply blue color of the water that you never see near land.

*The nautical terms.........underway, disembark, forward, aft

*Like Teegiee, moving away from the wharf for the first time, those first centimetres.

*The colours of the wash as we plough through the waves, those beautiful aquamarines

*Counting the hundreds of flying fish, once you know where to look and what to look for. People didn't believe me. I saw them all day, every day.

*Just looking over the side, I never tire of it.

*The movement of the ship.

*The total relaxation of not driving in traffic in unknown streets, wondering where you will stay the night. You don't have to plan anything, you are there.

* The 'group feel', especially when you are in the ports. You are not the only tourist in town. Being with like minded people. 'Where are you from? Have you cruised before?'

I like the sounds....except for once on the old Spirit of Tasmania. It was a very rough crossing, and we were in the most forward Suite on the highest deck. I'll never forget the creaks and groans that night. I could of sworn the ship was going to break up any second.

Where do I start?

Waking up on the morning of the cruise

Sail away

Meals

Sea air

Making new friends

Floor shows (well, most of them)

Relax, (no pressure)

"That" smell the ship can get when the plumbing gets clogged . No, rub that one out! :D

Drat, I need to book another cruise NOW!

(Actually, funds almost saved, just waiting for that *special*)

What I love about cruising: ( Thank heavens this isn't one of those 25 words or less competitions).:D

Seeing the ship for the first time on Departure day.

Exploring the ship for the first time

Sail Away

Having the pre dinner cocktail before dinner and the post dinner cocktail.:)

Taking a stroll around the promenade deck

Watching the sun sets

No cooking, washing up, cleaning or making beds etc

Not having to carry a handbag around everyday just carry the all important cruise card.

No mobile phones

Seeing the flying fish, spotting a whale and the time we watched a tiger shark cicling the pilot boat in Asia.

Visiting interesting places and experiencing new things:

Like the plane that takes off from Mystery island that flew over Tanna Volcano.

The helicopter ride over Port Vila,

Just catching a taxi in Port Vila

The sea plane from Frazer island,

Sailing on The Gretel around the Whisundays.

Seeing the ice carving in Alaska,

Snorkelling at The Isle of Pines

Experiencing an Earth Tremor on Mystery island

Wondering why the ship has suddenly turned 180 degrees and to find out there is a cyclone heading our way.

Dont forget

The fun of Island Night

Meeting New people and forming new friendships

Playing and actually Winning Bingo, unfortunately never the Snowball jackpot

Playing the Trivia and winning that much sort after plastic memento with your team mates.

What's not good about cruising?

Happy New Year to one and all!

CRUISING ALONG:)
