Upgrade at checkin?

Hi all, Just wondering if you can upgrade your cabin at checkin, On RCCL they charge a set fee to upgrade. How about Curnard?

I think the RCCL system is excellent - 'Can I get an upgrade?' 'Sure - this is how much it will cost'. Unfortunately I don't know of other lines who operate such a practice - I've never heard of anyone buying an upgrade at check-in on Cunard - sometimes they are given one......

I agree, I've never heard of a check-in upgrade. People who find out about an upgrade at check-in weren't upgraded at that moment, they just didn't find out until that moment. The check-in staff don't have the authority to make those changes. Cunard, like many lines, always puts out the "this voyage is completely booked" sign to discourage people from asking for an upgrade.

I heard of this on QE2 many years ago… It was done on a TA that wasn’t fully booked. The passengers went to the Pursers Office after embarkation, inquired and paid the rack rate for the category they desired.

If this is still possible I do not know… If it is I doubt it’s at check in… only onboard.

My last voyages were all sell outs and all I saw was the sign alerting everyone.

Thanks for your replies! I understand that you can't upgrade the day of, But can you call a couple days ahead and buy and upgrade at a reduced fee? As I hear that our cruise is only half full (2/15 on QM2).

No harm in asking - but between now & then I'm sure Cunard will do all they can to fill the ship - so you may well be upgraded to make space in a cheaper cabin for them to sell.
