toonjie Posted August 8, 2008 #1376 Share Posted August 8, 2008 Question for those that have sailed on AOS. We are scheduled to sail her next month and are signed up for the late seating. I saw an old Compass that said this would be at 9:00 on the first night only. The ship leaves the pier at 10:00. My question is...how long does it typically take to get through dinner in the dining room? Normally, we like to take our time and enjoy the meal but I would really like to be up on deck for the sailaway from San Juan at night. Leaving the port is always a highlight for me. Can you get through dinner in an hour or less or should we plan on eating in the Windjammer that night? TIA AOS sails at 8:30pm now as long as they aren't waiting for latecomers. First seating should be done and second seating is at 9:00pm. It is only a problem if they depart late and you are on second seating. Make sure you do catch sailaway from San Juan though, it's the best!

love2cruiseseattle Posted August 8, 2008 #1378 Share Posted August 8, 2008 I believe the Mystery Dinner is the same night as the Captains Gala (1st formal - 1st sea day), if that is true if you go to the Mystery Dinner will you miss the picture taking with the captain and the cocktails? mckinna Posted August 8, 2008 #1379 Share Posted August 8, 2008 I have a stupid question- is San Juan considered an international flight? I know you have to check in at the airport earlier for international flights. Our flight is really early, and I don't want to get there any earlier than I have to. Thanks! jjtt Posted August 9, 2008 #1380 Share Posted August 9, 2008 No, San Juan is NOT an international flight. We were told that at our airport (Phila.). NO question is a stupid one. I have asked many myself.
mckinna Posted August 9, 2008 #1381 Share Posted August 9, 2008 Thanks! I didn't think so, but I wanted to be sure. Guess we can get an extra 30 min sleep that morning.
blaster454 Posted August 10, 2008 #1382 Share Posted August 10, 2008 Hello, all! I just discovered CC and it's amazing pool of information. We are booked on AOS for the 21 September sailing (southern Caribbean) and are really looking forward to it. We are on deck 7 with an ocean view stateroom. This is my first cruise, the first for DW on a large ship, and the 2nd for DD (but not on RCI the first time). We also have DBIL and friend in an adjoining cabin so it's almost a family reunion. I am trying hard to absorb some of the info here but it's a daunting task! We're flying into SJ on Friday so will have Saturday to relax & see the sights (staying in OSJ) ... we might try to make the rain forest Saturday. I am still trying to figure out what the rollcall is :D. I will undoubtedly have questions over the next several weeks (boy, is that an understatement). Maybe we'll get a chance to meet one or two of you on this cruise. 42 days and counting ... blaster (aka Larry)

TennisLover Posted August 11, 2008 #1385 Share Posted August 11, 2008 ckrobyn I now know why youre hooked on AOS we've booked her again WOOHOOO! Love the puerto ricans - they love to party and bring a real atmosphere to the ship :D So there is a really fun nightlife on this ship? We did Southern Caribbean on Carnival this year and -- maybe because it was so port intensive -- it was too quiet at night for me. AOS is not as port-intensive so I was wondering about this. I do like to have a good time at night! FYI - our cruise is Easter week (4/5/09). What are the fun places to go at night? I'm not big on the shows.... (saw the ice show on NOS...) dolphinz75 Posted August 11, 2008 #1386 Share Posted August 11, 2008 Has anyone experienced the Casino Surcharge on the AOS??? It seems to be a fee that isn't very consistent across the fleet...

It seems to be a fee that isn't very consistent across the fleet... I've never had to pay a casino surcharge on the the AOS. I assume you are referring to a fee to take out cash at the casino?
