Passport card with RFID chip starts 2/1/08

Recommended Posts

Just curious, is anyone going to apply for this card and if so what benefits other then portability are there for you. This is an interesting concept, using a vicinity-read radio frequency identification (RFID) chip looks like it would be convenient for Canadians cruising, although they claim it is not to be used for flying. Any input would be interesting.

If you haven't read about the new Passport card you can read about it here: http://travel.state.gov/passport/ppt_card/ppt_card_3926.html

We all have our passports but my son goes to school in Vermont and they go to Canada a lot. For $20 I am going to get it for him so he can keep it is in wallet instead of carrying his passport in his pocket or birth certificate. The only thing I think it is good for is the credit card size portability of it.
