Immigration Issues on Hobart??

Hi,

 

Somebody was telling me that we should go with a Princess excursion since they've run into immigration issues in Hobart and that will delay you getting off the ship. Does anyone know if that's true?

If you are coming from Melbourne on your way to N.Z. you will not be subject to immigration as Tasmania is part of Australia. If you are coming from N.Z. and Hobart is your first port of call then everyone will be subject to Australian immigration. Perhaps those going on Princess excursions have priority over the rest of the ship which seems unfair.

do they have a different line for the aussie's and can any one say appox how long it takes as im thinking of hiring a car and would like to know an appox time to book it for and also can you pick the car up from the port

I imagine that you would have to pick up the hire car from the city depot which is only about a 10 minute walk from the port. The city is very close to where the cruise ship will be docked.

 

As I have never arrived into Hobart by ship I cannot help with how they organize immigration.
