MIA to Ft. Lauderdale cruise terminal

We are flying into MIA on Thurs. night for cruise from Ft. Lauderdale on Friday. Trying to figure the most economical alternative for hotel/cruise terninal transportation.

Were considering staying in Miami close to or in the airport at the MIA hotel and then taking Princess transfers to Ft. Lauderdale which is $15 each or possibly renting a car for one night which is around $70, picking up in MIA, spending the night at a Ft. Lauderdale hotel and dropping off at FLL and taking a cab to the port.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Princess does not currently have any hotel reservations for night prior in either MIA or FLL.

Thanks!

Have you made your arrangements? We are on the Magic cruise with you in October. I notice you live in Castle Rock and RV. We are in Highlands Ranch and did the AlCan highway to Fairbanks last summer in our motorhome. We plan to RV back to Canada this summer. We usually rent a car in Miami and/or Ft. Lauderdale and use the shuttle to the port. We usually fly in at least a day early and stay in a cheap hotel for the night prior to the cruise. If you have any questions for me or would like to meet prior to the cruise, you can email me at harrco at yahoo dot com.

If cruise transfers from MIA to Port Everglades are only $15 jump on that - a taxi for the 40+ minute ride will be close to $100  and SuperShuttle is about $40+ per person. Are you sure you were not looking at the transfer price from FLL to Port Everglades?

For hotels near MIA I suggest the Blue Lagoon area (Homewood Suites, Hampton Inn and many others). All offer free MIA airport shuttles and have shopping and dining options within walking distance (there is a strip mall across the street from the Hampton Inn - try Casa Juan for great and inexpensive Cuban food! :D). Many cruisers like the Embassy Suites at MIA for the free happy hour and great free breakfast, but you are isolated there without a car. :(

You should be able to rent a car for one day for less than $70 - unless there are several of you and you need a van or something. Try www.carrentals.com to compare prices among several car rental agencies.

Good Luck! :)
