Water taxi or Ferry from La Romana to Catalina Island???

We will be stopping at at the Port of La Romana on March 5th on the Costa Mediteranea for the full day.

 

They offer expensive beach trips to Catalina Island (I believe $58.00pp) and another expensive trip to Bayahibe beach.

 

Does anybody know if you can get to Catalina island on your own from the port of La Romana? Using a water taxi or ferry?

 

If we can't find a way I guess we will taxi to Bayahibe, but the lack of bathrooms (mentioned in other posts) worries me.
