FLauderdale Airport - Luggage Storage

We are departing on a Southern Caribbean cruise this coming Sunday for a 7 day cruise. Since we have a late flight into Toronto and the cruise embarkation will be early, we are wondering if there are any storage lockers for luggage in the airport terminal in Fort Lauderdale. We don't want to sit in the airport all day and are limited with carrying luggage to visit the Fort Lauderdale area.

Any suggestions

It sounds like what you need is HAL's Signature Express Baggage Service. We just used it this past Saturday in Ft. lauderdale as we came off the Zuiderdam, and it worked out perfectly.

You will leave the ship like everyone else, pick up your luggage to clear customs and then hand your luggage back to a baggage attendant (after taking a minute to add last minute items to our checked bags). They will take your luggage to the airport and have it checked onto your flight. You won't have to touch it again until you get to your home airport.

You will get a flyer on board the ship a day or two into the cruise that explains everything, and lists the airlines that are available (it seemed like most major carriers were on the list), and the charge was $15 per person. The ship prints your boarding passes and you don't need to check in at the airport, which was nice because the lines were really long at that point.

We had a 6:30 pm flight out of Lauderdale, and took a cab from the cruise terminal to the 17th street causeway bridge where we bought a water taxi pass ($12 for all day) and got around that way, until we needed a taxi to the airport. Everything is really pretty close in Ft. lauderdale, and the water taxi rides were a lot of fun -- took you to the beach or shopping locations and also gave a bit of a narrated tour of the sights along the way which was pretty cool as well.

I was a hesitent to recommend this because the OP is from Canada. I do not know if the OP's airline carrier, the flight or the OP will be eligible for the service.

When it works, it works. And when it does not, it's a last minute mess. We applied to use this service out of Seattle. Both my daughter's and my luggage were accepted. My DH's was not. We never learned who denied his luggage or the reason. All we know is that it was not HAL and more than likely the airline or TSA. We have since speculated that the denial was due to either a random event or because my DH was born in Germany, some 55 years prior.

In any event, it's worth a shot and the baggage check at the airport is a back-up plan.

You are invited to join our "Meet and Greet" right after the lifeboat drill in the "Crow's Nest". The name tags are already made up but please don't let that stop you. We have about 40 CC'ers gathering.

You can visit our roll call by clicking the link in my signature block.

Hope to see you on Sunday!

I believe that Signature Express Baggage service is ONLY for domestic flights, not for those into Canada or any other country. I would follow the link posted by hammybee, as you to the best of my knowledge would not qualify for the service posted by bevo44.

Further, Signature Express is available only to U.S. citizens traveling on a passport.

We were on the Ryndam at Christmas time and wanted to use the Signature luggage. If you are on Southwest, that is one airline that DOES NOT use the Signature Luggage system. Also, Southwest will not let you check luggage longer than 4 hours before a flight. I believe after 911 all lockers have been disposed of in airports. I know at our airport they are gone.

I sympathize. Disembarking at 8am and not flying out of FLL until 7pm gave me an issue with luggage storage too. I took a cab from the port to the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino which is nearby. Checked my luggage with the concierge and enjoyed the facilities for the day :D When it was time to be at the airport I picked up my luggage with a small tip for storage and cabbed it to FLL. It was a great way of extending the fun with slightly larger fee than getting one of the Cruise transfers and having to sit at the airport all day. Oh, slightly larger fee does not include gambling losses :( Have a super cruise.
