When to book excursions?

On an August 2008 Alaska cruise how far in advance do you think it is necessary to book excursions to avoid them being closed out?

 

Hard to predict; some are rather popular and have rather limiting availability (i.e. helicopter flightseeing). I believe on my Alaska trip some excursion began selling out about 6-8 weeks before sailing date; I am sure this varies from cruise to cruise though.

If you see something you really want to do, I would book it as soon as shore excursions become available for your sailing. There is no advantage to waiting, and some do sell out.
