well after a long night lastnight and a few to many drinks with DH i woke thinking about my post lastnight. i just wanted in advance to appologize to anyone i might have possibly offended with my post lastnight. most the time i read post where someone is rude with others for no reason. this i still dont get cause we all have opinions and we are entitled to them, but for someone to be rude with others for no reason but to just be mean i'll never get. i usually only respond here and there and always nicely so sorry for last nights posts. i just get sick of mean/rude people on here when these boards was not intended for that its a place to get and share information not degrade or be with others. have a nice day and again sorry i went over board (no pun intend :D ) with my post lastnight

For those posters that said it isn't about the money, they just want to have a drink in their cabin without having to run to the bar for it, I'm with you. Bon Voyage department thru Carnival allows you to purchase a bottle of your favorite liquor and it will be waiting in your room on arrival. You have to call cuz the alcohol isn't listed on the website. It is of course more expensive than buying it at your local liquor store but if you said it isn't about the money, that is an option. I plan to do that cuz it just isn't worth taking a chance on having the booze confiscated or broken among my clothes, yuk:eek: !

But for those that say they refuse to pay the high prices, go for it. You won't hear me bashing you for smuggling booze. To each their own. I considered it myself but I'm less concerned about saving a little money. Lets see it cost me about $30 for a bottle of Jack Daniels in the store and $55 thru Bon Voyage (I think thats the latest price I heard on CC for it). I think I can spare $25 for the convenience of having it in my room.

Whatever you choose to do, I'm sure will be a good choice. Happy sailing!

Earthgirl..I just replied with the same comment..haha. I am going on the Celebration in April and taking wine for our room. I hope I don't have to deal with that drama.

I look at it this way, I bought a bottle of Mumms from the BV dept to have ready in our room. I will be bringing another bottle of Mumms and a bottle of wine on board. Even if they charge me the corkage fee for both bottles at embarkation, I will still have paid less than I did for that one bottle I got from the BV dept! Happy, not really, but I will smile because I will know what I saved! :D

We just order a bottle of Absolute through the gift department and they will have it in your room when you arrive. You can't order it on line, you must call. Carnival will also allow you to bring a couple of bottles of wine on board. Hope this helps.

Oh...I saw this the other day in another thread. Could you tell me about how much? Someone said it was a little more than normal, but I think it is worth it not to have the hassle of bubble wrap and praying that it won't break and still make it through the check points.

Can anyone tell me if beer is allowed to be brought on? My hubby is a beer drinker and would love to be able to pack a couple of six or twelve packs for the cruise. Thanks in advanced.

I put beer in an empty suitcase and check it in as regular luggage. On the way home another suitcase easily fits inside the beer case and both go home.

I have run into a snag that I am working on as I type. Carnival has 16 oz. alumnum bottles of bud lite not the cans I used to bring ( smuggle) on board. My ex neighbors in Florida are looking into where I can buy the 16 oz bottles before I get on the ship.

I will keep you posted. What type of beer does hubby drink?

Glen

I have never heard of being charged the corkage fee at embarkation..it is only if you bring the bottle to the dining room.. even then some servers don't charge it:confused:

I have seen Coors Light and Heiniken in cans onboard.. the only time I have seen budlight in cans was leaving from Galveston.. their liquor laws didn't allow the alum bottles there.. until you were in international waters.. i would suggest bringing a coozie for your can.. then it is covered and you would never be able to tell the difference:D

RolexRider,

We used to smuggle booze on board. What I discovered is that most cruise lines (Royal Carribean excluded) have a Bon Voyage service that allows you to buy booze and have it delivered to your stateroom. I found the price of $38 for a 40oz bottle of Jamesons quite a reasonable price to pay. SO NOW that you can't bring booze aboard the planes I find it MORE convenient to have the booze delivered, no worry about it being confiscated or breaking in my luggage. Just my 2 cents.

You bring up a good point. Who is going to ask me what I have in my can even if I didn't have a can cooler, nobody. Nobdy cars except the guys that pester you every 10 minutes at the pool for a drink.

I post again....

I am still not sure why this continues to be limited to booze on cruise ships. Would someone on here please expand on this a bit for me?

Has someone discovered a good way to smuggle a good cut of beef into Ruth's Chris Steak house so I can enjoy all of the atmosphere they offer, yet not pay the confiscatory prices they charge for a meal? I really can't afford to go to Ruth's Chris as often as I like so I could justify my actions by saying they are robbing me because steak is so much less expensive at the supermarket.

learn to cook a good steak for yourself and you don't have to leave the house. I learned to mix myself a drink and look I can do that anywhere.

So, in other words, no, there are no other words. Shut up!

Those that have brought beer onboard...

Did you fly with it, or travel to the ship by car? It might sound like a dumb question, but do you have to worry about the cans exploding during flight?

buy it at the place you are boarding the ship, just don't have it on your carryon and you will be fine.

we put a half gallon of seagrams 7 (plastic bottle) in our checked luggage no problem. i wire tied all my luggage before we left and had a pair of nail clippers in my back pack to cut once i got my luggage in my room so i knew no one had been through my luggage. i did hear a lot of people in the hallway from our room talking about some got their booze and some didnt but the ones that didnt get theirs tried to carry it on in there carry on bag. i say try it what do you have to lose? just a bottle no biggie to me its worth the try. like i said we had no problems. LOL well except one. DH was not going to run back and forth to the room to make a drink so we actually hardly drank from the bottle he just bought drinks where ever we were at. so with that i suggest you have some kind of flask or something to have a little in if you are wanting to mix drinks without running to the room all the time.

Try a 32 oz mug. You can drink a while on that. Carnival sells them in the gift shops if you want to soothe any guilt over smuggling. Not that you should have any guilt.

Fast Freddie thanks., i had thought about using BV and another place someone a while back posted that delivers to the ships. i was by several here on the boards that you wasnt able to do that out of New Orleans but was able to out of Fl. i never checked and just took their word for it since it was people that had sailed from New Orleans a lot of times. i would have much rathered had it waiting for me in my room when i arrived honestly i think it would have been much easier. we will sail out of FL next time and i will order it through BV or http://justbecause.addictscay.com/ and having it waiting in my room when i get on board

It is not the same thing. Ruth’s Chris and other top of the line steak houses have

available to them a quality of beef that is not available to the general public. Go

ahead and try to buy the quality of beef available to Ruth's Chris and such, you

won't find it. Forget a grocery store, and it is the rare butcher shop that can get it.

I have a couple of classic Jags, it is not uncommon at all for me to supply the part needed for the repair shop to install to repair the vehicle. In addition, on my new Jag I use Mobile1 and the Jag dealership has no issue with me supplying the oil for them to use for the oil change. Note: I said JAG DEALERSHIP has no problem with it. To take it a step further they do sell Mobile1, but at about 3X what I can buy it for and yet they still are ok with me supplying my own oil for the oil change.

Ever take food onto a plane, a sandwich. Chips, candy etc? How about if your next flight the airline said, no bringing food of any type or kind on board, you MUST buy the food we offer or go without.

Again, Back to Ruth’s Chris, when I go there I am buying FOOD. When I sail Carnival or Princess etc I am buying a CRUISE. I am not going on a cruise to buy alcohol. I may if I choose, but that is not the reason I am spending money with the cruise line. If you point is valid regarding “smuggling” booze would it not also be the same regarding photographs onboard the ship? What if the cruse line took and held your camera until you left the ship on port days. Thus not allowing you to take you own photos while onboard ship. If you wanted a photo while onboard the ship, you had to use a ship photographer, would you be ok with that? Would you still say people who “smuggled” on a camera were thieves, cheap, classless, immoral etc?

Regarding smuggling booze, we search out Costco’s that are near the port we are sailing from whenever possible. We avoid if at all possible packing the booze in our checked luggage when we fly. The weight, hassles, it is not worth it.

By the way, the prices at Ruth's Chris, I don’t find that bad. Nor do I find the prices for the booze on CCL cruise ships (Carnival, Princess, HAL etc.) out of line. I take, I "Smuggle" my own booze on because there are times when I want a drink and don’t want to hassle with leaving my balcony/cabin or deal with room service or the limited selection of a mini bar. Even with my smuggled booze, my bar tab is still a good amount of money.

One last thing, on my last big cruise I took chips and cards and got a pretty good sized Texas hold’em game going in my suite, and yes, it was for cash. Not outrageous amounts but it was not chump change either. The cruise line did not get a cut, as they would have if we had played in the casino? So was that stealing?

Great response..... You should use it every "can I bring liquor on the ship" thread that appears..

I cannot understand these "Overcompliant" people. Probably the same ones who would rush to get in line and turn over their guns, if the government decided to outlaw firearms.

Same old whiners..can't let it go... can you, spud.

Why don't you stay in your hole and shine your halo when threads like this come out ?

...this thread is for the trouble makers

For the OP...we fly in the day before, go booze shopping and pack it in the extra suitcase we bring. The suitcase is a little bigger than a carry on and rugged. We use this suitcase, on the return home, for any souveniers or other crap we buy.

I pack bubble wrap and packing tape to keep the smuggled booze safe and sound. Check the bag, pack it with care, and it will get to your room without problems.

For those who think smuggling is wrong and immoral...I will toast you with my smuggled booze during sail away.

How much money do you actually save yourself?

I was put on to something from a thread a year or so ago. The way to carry liquor on board is in the Rum Runner Flasks which come in various sizes. They are unbreakable, X-ray proof, and don't leak.

Have used on 4 cruises, and many other trips. They are great if you just go on the road trips too. The price is very low and the service and quality of the company is awesome.

If you put the name together and add the dot com to Rum Runner Flasks you will get their website.

I never leave home on a trip now without them:D

Enjoy

On our Nov 07 cruise on the Spirit we put two bottles of wine (1 in each suitcase) when we got to our room there was a note and we had to go and collect that suitcase. We were asked what was in our case and I said a bottle of wine and they immediately charged me the $15 corkage fee. They didnt find the other bottle of wine or the 2 bottles our friends brought. I think it was definitely a hit or miss. They wrapped their bottles in clothing and we didnt.

Just pointing out that this cruiser was on NCL when they were assessed the corkage fee.......not on Carnival. Their rules/screening are supposed to be much more vigilant and rigid.
