SweetEmi Posted April 24, 2004 #26 Share Posted April 24, 2004 Jen: Stop by the hospital when you're here and check it out! Then you can have them call me and I'll come up and meet ya. You'd need my last name though because they wouldn't have a clue who SweetEmi was....lol! But if you asked the right people and spelled the Emi part - they would know. MOMofONE Posted April 25, 2004 #28 Share Posted April 25, 2004 I must add my Mahalo too! I have printed pages of advice from the "Aloha Ambassadors" here at the Hawaii boards! Couldn't fathom visiting these ports without the generosity of their time and thoughtfulness. I agree whole-heartedly with all previous comments, but herb's really struck a cord when he said: "The nice thing is that each and every question is answered in a polite and respectful manner. Not once have I noticed a reply that could somehow be construed as a "flaming" remark." Even the most helpful threads often manage to start a war of words or instigate a curt "been there-done that" attitude. But this thread is the only exception to that generality. Thank you MidtheNight for opening this topic to a well deserved group. Thank you bug_dan for posting the Aloha Law link - am sharing with my fellow Pride of Aloha passengers. If I provide just 1/1,000,000th of equally valuable information, by sharing my experience post-cruise, I will be honored for the opportunity to help perpetuate the Aloha Spirit here at Cruise Critic. MidtheNight Posted April 26, 2004 Author #33 Share Posted April 26, 2004 bug_dan- What a great link! Going to try to make that a part of my attitude here in FLA year round (not just off season)...it will be a difficult task (just one word explains that... snowbirds!)....but I'm willing to give it a 110% effort. Actually it did make me stop and think about me being the "tourist" whenever we travel and I for one will definately bring the Aloha spirit with me on this and every future trip regardless of where I go. I even printed it out and placed a copy under the glass on my desk at work to make me remember it. Thanks again for that great link! Suebee Posted April 26, 2004 #37 Share Posted April 26, 2004 Me4Me- We are military and moving is part of the job description. My question for others is....why would you ever want to leave the glorious autumn of New England? Born and raised New Englander...I love the changing seasons. Yes the weather is nice here but an awful lot like living in june and July all year round! To be fair...some people are summer people, some winter...I love changing seasons. gardencat Posted April 27, 2004 #38 Share Posted April 27, 2004 I can't wait to visit Hawaii again, I was there (Oahu and Maui) 20 years ago just for 10 days and thought it was paradise. I must admit though that I too would miss the changing seasons. No matter how much I look forward to the warm weather and return of the flowers every spring I also look forward to the crisp days of autumn and a reprive from the hot sticky feeling of summer every fall. Guess I'm one of those people with a short attention span who needs constant stimulation Also I think it would be harder to go to work in Hawaii. When your living in paradise how do you talk yourself into getting up and doing the old 9 to 5?
spleen93 Posted April 27, 2004 #39 Share Posted April 27, 2004 Just think to yourself, "If I don't go to work, I can't afford to live here" ... it gets you up and going. On the note of New England, Suebee - you want to give me any recommendations as to where to visit while we're in Boston and Bar Harbor, ME? me4me Posted April 27, 2004 #40 Share Posted April 27, 2004 Spleen - what types of activities are you looking to do? How far are you willing to travel to see sites, etc? Between Boston and Bar Harbor is quite a distance. SueBee - I too like the changing seasons which is why I moved back here. gardencat Posted April 27, 2004 #41 Share Posted April 27, 2004 Yes, Spleen I see the truth in that. Sort of similar to what gets me up at 6 in the morning during a blizzard to dig my car out of the snow. In my case though it's more a case of "If I don't go to work I can't afford to pay the heating bill!" Suebee Posted April 27, 2004 #42 Share Posted April 27, 2004 Spleen, if you still have my email, send me one and we can discuss Boston more extensively. Boston is called the walking city...completely different from Honolulu and full of our nation's history. Depending on your likes, you will find more than enough to do. I can give restaurant ideas too. To all, that is what makes Hawaii the perfect destination....it is so unlike where people on the mainland lives that it is a true getaway. Especially from those Nothern Winters! NCL Star 1/04 What's Next? Alaska 2005 - Ask me about an official CC group!

me4me Posted May 3, 2004 #50 Share Posted May 3, 2004 Spleen - this site might help with your decisions in ME. www.barharbormaine.com Depending on your preferences you might want to try Arcadia and/or Cadillac mountain. Lobster meal a must and cheaper at lunch time.
