Golden/Star balconies

I know they are sister ships, or at least I think they are. Trying to figure out what type balcony certain cabins have for Alaska...full cover, partial cover, no cover.

On Golden looking at BA or BB on Caribe deck or AC or AA Mini on Dolphin. Same catagory for the Star which if they are sisters then I know the answer.

We're also considering the HA Westerdam but that's a another story.

Thanks in advance

following refers to 'side' balconies only, i.e. those on starboard or port sides of any ‘Grand’ class ship (Grand, Golden, Star, Diamond, Sapphire, Caribbean, Crown, Emerald etc)....

Baja deck balconies are sized 9 ft. wide x 5 ft. deep and have full ceiling overhang. Lido, Aloha, Riviera decks have the same balconies. You can stand at the railing of these balconies and look down on to part of the Caribe deck balconies and all of the Dolphin deck balconies.

Caribe deck balconies are sized 9 ft. wide x 9 ft. deep and have ceiling overhang over the first 5 ft. Standing at the railing, you will overlook Dolphin deck balconies below.

Dolphin deck balconies (all balcony cabins are actually mini-suites and thus bigger than regular balcony cabins on the interior with sitting area, 2nd TV and bathtub/shower combination instead of the small shower stall found in the regular balcony cabins). The balcony is sized 9 ft. wide x 7 ft. deep and has no ceiling overhang as protection from sun or rain.

Emerald deck has several mini-suites each side with fully covered balconies. The last mini-suite cabin towards aft end on each side has extra wide balcony. Emerald deck also has some regular balcony cabins near the front that have the balconies set back under the roof and back from the railing. You look straight out to the water but cannot look down on the water. The walking track goes past these balconies and walkers can see you on your balcony. I do not have any measurements for these Emerald deck balcony sizes.

Hope this helps. Enjoy your cruise!

We had a BA on the Caribe on the Golden in November, and really liked the fact that they are about half covered. Plenty of room to sit in the sun in the uncovered area, and if we wanted out of the sun, we pulled out chairs back under the overhang. Also when we were back near the sliding door, we could get out of the wind somewhat.

We are in a BA on the Diamond to Hawaii in 48 days, because we liked the set-up on the Golden so much..

Don't see Riviera, did you mean Emerald??

Riviera is an extra deck of cabins added to the Caribbean Princess, Crown, Emerald and new Ruby. It is located under the Lido deck. This deck is not found on older 'Grand Class' ships which carry 500 less passengers.

I gathered balcony size info through 5 past cruises on various Princess ships and reading the boards here. I keep this info saved as it is such a popular question on Cruise Critic.

For our Alaska cruise on the Star Princess we chose a mini-suite on the Emerald deck. These have covered balconies, unlike the mini's on Dolphin deck which are completely exposed. We expect rain, and thought we'd be able to use the balcony more if it was covered. There are just a few of these rooms on Emerald deck, and they are all aft. You can see them

in this photo.

In posting the aft photo, I should clarify that the Emerald mini's are not DIRECTLY aft..those balconies are mostly for the full suites. They are the 6 aft rooms on the starboard side, with another 6 on the port side.

We feel fortunate to have booked one of these 12 mini's.
