The flight is 1:45. According to AA page. I do not know what aircraft they use but the departure is from the city airport. See you on the 26th I believe, hope that the first part of your cruise is spectacular. Have you seen the terrible reviews of the holiday cruise? Hope that you enjoy good scenery and the wildlife - I cannot understand how the reviewers choses that trip!!!:)

...Have you seen the terrible reviews of the holiday cruise?

One of the reviewers stated that sending an Email was "£2 per minute", when in reality it is $2 flat fee for an email message of up to 100kb. He also stated that wine is $50 per bottle, when in reality I bought wine on board for less than $32 per bottle. He also stated that upon his request, his double bed was "replaced" with two singles. In reality, all of the beds are two singles pushed together to make a queen size, and nothing was replaced, they were just reshuffled.

In my opinion, such careless inaccuracies cast doubt on the entire review -- it they can't get the facts right, how can we trust their opinions?

Don:

I couldn't agree more. Not everything is perfection but both of those last reviews were IMHO both inaccurate and full of "hot air." How the person from the UK ever bought that cruise I will never understand. What the blazes did he expect in the nether regions of the world, Birds of Paradise and tropical palms??? I hope that I never have to be shipmates with this type of character.

The two reviews dated 12/07 here.

In fairness, one of the reviewers had a legitimate beef against the casino, and still gave the cruise a 5+ rating. It only comes across as negative because it appears he was looking for things to criticize. The other reviewer also had a lot of nice things to say and gave the cruise a rating of 4...but in this case, it appears really obvious they were looking for negative things. If one concentrates long enough and hard enough on finding things that are wrong, one will find them...

...For example, if I had requested single beds and arrived to find the bed still made up as a queen, I would have praised the cabin staff for how quickly they rectified the situation, not called it out as a negative.

Thanks for the reference. I had read the "Black Jack" review and stopped reading when the implication of dealer cheating was made. Give me a break! Dealers want players to win - that's where tips come from. Obviously, there was no description of how vociferous he was in his questioning. Clearly, if the manager's response was as described, shame on him. I assume that the casino operation is contracted out. You can bet that Harrah's will soon be the contractor!

The other review is clearly a case of misplaced expectations (are the seas really choppy in Drakes passage? Were they surprised by the number of sea days?) and obsession with the negative. We all know folks whose memories of a vacation are focused on things that went wrong. I remember our first visit to Africa back in the 80's when a group of 30'somethings went into a deep depression when they found that Evian water was not available on safari - that clearly became the dominant memory of their African adventure.

I was surprised to read the very negative comments about the Hotel Manager, Michael Coghlan, a Canadian. We have met him several times on various issues and have always found him very friendly and accomodating.

In my opinion, the passenger should have first complained to the Casino Manager rather than immediately escalating to the Hotel Director.

The review by the UK passengers indicated that they made a poor choice of voyages. Why did they select a cruise with many sea days visiting ports that were apparently of little interest and serving food targeted for 80+% of the passengers (which did not include them)?

No matter who he complained to the answer would be the same. In no casino can a player demand a reshuffle in black jack because he has a string of bad luck. Think about the implications of that!
