What to do in Manzanillo??????

:D I know there are alot of negative comments about Manzanillo, but there must be something positive to see or do. Does anyone having any fun suggestions? How far is a great beach? We are taking a ship's excursion in Ixtapa, so would prefer to do something on our own in Manzanillo. Any suggestions would we greatly appreicated.

There are many wonderful beaches around Manzanillo - public beaches like La Audencia and all inclusive resorts like Las Hadas. The snorkeling is good (not great; the Mexican Pacific coast is not known for great snorkeling) at these beaches near the rocks, the water is warm, and there are jet ski's and other water activities. You can easily take a taxi right at the pier for about $10-$12 each way and a 20 minute or so ride.

I was not interested in going to a beach so I hired a taxi for a few hours for a tour. They have a few viewing points and a nice little town to wander around. Not the greatest port.

Being from Minnesota, we love the beach, so that will probably be our first stop! A little shopping too! Thanks for the response!

We were there in Jan/07 and ended up at La Audencia beach. This is a locals beach, lots of mexican families and very inexpensive day of drinking and eating! The beach is small because it is in a cove. The cervezas were $1 each if we walked up to the guy in the restaurant of $2 if they served us. We rented two lounge chairs a table and umbrella for around $5 US if I am not mistaken. We ate shrimp at the beach restaurant with a lovely couple we met who were also Canadian. They took us back to their condo and we had a few more beer, then went to the mall, and they then drove us back to the ship. So....if you are a little adventurous and want to meet some locals etc then do as we did.

Many people we spoke to went to the famous Las Hadas resort and loved it! It sounds like it is a much more luxourious way to spend the day. You pay to get in and the cost of admission allows you credit towards food and drinks and of course use of the pools, chairs, beach area etc. If we ever return we will try that next time......a much more "expensive" day though....I was told the drinks were not cheap!

yes la audencia was nice, we took a cab there 15$ each way for 4 of us, its about 10=15 min from the pier ...

Thanks for this information and the neat pictures. Looks like our kind of place! Last time we took a ship's tour to the turtle sanctuary and enjoyed that a lot. Next time we'll go to the beach.
