Playa Mia or Xcaret?

Xcaret is on the mainland, so if you're docking in Cozumel you will have a long water taxi and then land taxi ride. Kind of a waste of the day. I would recommend Playa Mia, however, I have never been there. We are going on a cruise 3/22 - 3/29 and plan to visit there because we want to try something new and we have college kids who want the all-inclusive drinks and younger teens who want to play on the "water toys". In my experience, beaches with all-inclusive drink packages get pretty wild... so, if that's what you're looking for... Otherwise, there is a beautiful national park called Chankanaab Lagoon that has a beautiful beach, botanical gardens, restaurant, lounge chairs, food and drink waiters on the beach, shower and restroom facilities, snorkelling and scuba rentals, etc... It is one of my very favorite locations! The only drawback is that to enter the water you must go down steps. If mobility is an issue with you, that could be a problem.

We did Xcaret a few yrs. ago & weren't impressed. It's very commercial -- the underground river is man made & just very boring. It might be an OK place if you have children. We heard a lot of people complaining about their "dolphin encounter". In my opinion, it's not worth the long ferry ride.
