Dr_DNA Posted February 9, 2008 #3 Share Posted February 9, 2008 And, they also have a jail! Really? Does a cruise line have the legal right to detain someone? Just wondering.
SomeBeach Posted February 9, 2008 #4 Share Posted February 9, 2008 Yes, the Captain of a vessel has that right.
wraithe Posted February 9, 2008 #5 Share Posted February 9, 2008 Really? Does a cruise line have the legal right to detain someone? Just wondering. Ships at sea have been described as the last absolute monarchy on Earth. Aircraft in international airspace aren't much different.
CGBCruiser Posted February 9, 2008 #6 Share Posted February 9, 2008 They definitely have a morgue and a jail. I have seen someone being hauled off to jail and they definitely needed to go there! Also, I was cruising out of Galveston about three weeks ago and we had a gentleman pass away from a massive heart attack. Very sad! There are deaths on cruise ships all the time so they have to be able to handle those situations.
Sue L Posted February 9, 2008 #7 Share Posted February 9, 2008 they have had morgues for years, so that is nothing new. My husband read a cruising history book, though he can't remember the name right now, but I remember him reading a passage where because cruising was mainly for the elderly at one point that they had to have secondary morgues because so many passed away on the ships.
CGBCruiser Posted February 9, 2008 #8 Share Posted February 9, 2008 No doubt there were lots of elderly cruisers...there still are quite a few!! The man that passed away on our cruise was only 52. His family left the ship in Cozumel and went home to make arrangements.
bthom70 Posted February 9, 2008 #9 Share Posted February 9, 2008 Our Splendor Galveston-Spain transatlantic had 4 or 5 deaths too. We also had a guy be put in the brig and was flown home from Ponta Delgota .
