They have the kind that take your money and never give it back! :D

but seriously, most are the "game within the game style machines"...

wheel of fortune and such..

no they no longer use coins for play, or payout, so make sure if your bringing a penny or quarter jar, that you exchange it for cash before you go....Commerce bank exchange it for free ( you don't have to put them in rolls)

they have a coin star like machine that is free to use.

We were on the Fascination and the Miracle and both of them had machines that would take quarters and also give you back quarters when you cashed out.

really?

I don't remember them on the miracle?

Although theres a few things I don't remeber from my cruises...:D

I was told they are no longer using the quarters for many reasons..

-not sanitary

-too time consuming to count ( although i didn't understand that one since they are weighed by machines anyway)

- people tend to gamble less ( this one i can believe)

was it only the quarter slots that you remember or was it the nickel and peeny slots too?

I remember the 2 cent slots cause when I'd lost too much one night in the quarter slots I switched to the 2 cent machine. There were also nickel slots. I used the money on my card to play but they did take coins also. I didn't see any machines that you couldn't put quarters into.... The cashiers have a quarter counting machine and I saw alot of people carrying around buckets of quarters.

On the Pride 2 weeks ago, they paid out in nickels (boy wasn't that fun and dirty scooping out all of those), the also paid out in quarters.....The dollar machines paid out in dollar tokens.....The only you can win, is if you are ahead and the ship docks and forces you to stop playing....lol:)

We saw a guy win $25,000 on a progressive machine on the Elation back in 1999.

The most I have ever won was $900.00 on a quarter wheel of fortune on the Victory.....

Normally we don't do too bad. Only one cruise we came back in the hole.

And we normally play every night:o

just out of curiosity,

was the progressive hit for 25k during the beginning of the cruise?

I still want to see if the old " someone wins big in the biginning so everyone else will play more" theory has any truth to it...

I know in land casinos the machines are governed by gaming athourities. I have been told that at sea there are far less restrictions on how often a machine has to hit, making the theory more plausible

my GF's granfather wonn $1000

He was playing the $1 slots with $100 that his siter gave him before we left

He won on the very last credit...

A lady (from texas...vey nice) whom showed him the way to max bet and play the "game within the game" was so happy for him when he won.

well after we all thanked her and said we are sorry she didn't win ( she was playing the machine next to him) she said "oh thats ok, congradulations"

Then she plays the same machine as he was and won another $1000 on the very next pull.... we were all so happy for her since she was so nice about him winning..

so the point is always play one more time after you win......lol

(and no my GF's Grandpas' sister didn't split it with him):( :(

Plenty of slots on the Miracle and as far as I recall, they ALL took coins!

And yes, I won on the last night (just about the last person in there on the machines) on one of the $1 Wheel of Fortune. Put in $150, determined that I was going to win! Cashed out for $799! I had 2 buckets full of $1 tokens! Yippee! I never win anything!

Of course, when I cruise in May, I'll be trying to duplicate that and lose every cent. :p

while we are at it.., whats the most anyone has or seen won on the cruise ship slots?

Maybe 10 years ago, I was on a Carnival ship and played the progressive $1.00 slots about $50.00. Then I walked over to the window seats and waited for Barb. I was only about 20 ft away from the machines I had been playing when the casino mgr. came and shut them down. I asked what was up. He said that somebody on another Carnival ship had hit the big jackpot, 1.4 MILLION. [its a fleetwide progressive] It turns out it was 2 guys from my town of Vero. One was feeding in the $ and the other pulling the handle [or pushing the button]. The feeder stepped away for a minute and the other guy put money in and hit. He decided that the prize was all his. His, now former, friend didn't see it that way and sued him for half. Last I heard, 3 or 4 years later, they were still fighting it out in court. At that time I figured the lawyer fees had to be about the full amount.

Barb is pretty lucky on slots and has hit for $1000. a number of times. I never have done that. Hit the nickle slots for $80. the quarters for $260. and the dollar slots for $650. on 3 different nites on another cruise line. And all because I was waiting for a black jack table to get some action going. None ever did so I walked away whistling.

Had I gone in there to play slots, I'd have got my clock cleaned.
