Grand Princess Internet/Phone

Are there any Princess ships that have in-room internet? If there is anyone out there with recent internet experience on GP please give us the lowdown on speed and accessibility?

Also, I read somewhere on the AT&T website that AT&T-based cell phones work normally on the GP. I've experienced nominal sucess in Europe and Asia, so if this is true it would be nice. Has anyone actually used this service and if so...what has been your experience with price and accessibility?

Thanks!

I will let you know about the cell phone as soon as I get back from the Grand next week. I have AT&T and will be using it if available

I was just on the Grand in January and it still is part of Cellular at Sea. Before leaving I checked with my provider (At&T) and they said it would be an extra 2.49 per minute if I made a call. So you might want to call and see what your plan supports, I sure wasn't going to pay that.

I called AT&T and they said if the cruise ship has a cell tower of its own the phones will log on to that tower, and everyone will be charged the Cruise ships rate per minute, which I believe, for princess, is $2.49 per minute. there is lots of info about this on the thread "calling home" which I will post on, to bring it forward, since i am apparently link challenged and can't figure out how to post a link to it...

Thanks Sue. That's what I had heard too...I've also heard that the internet speed is abyssmal as well. I'll try to do all my online work in port at an internet cafe, at least where I feel safe enough to bring my portable off the ship. It'll be cheaper too. I'll just check e-mail on the ship for the most urgent messages only (I print them to PDF files and save them -- responding in text format offline) and deal with everything else in port. :D
