How much smoking is there on the Legend?

I've noticed in many other posts comments about smoking on the Legend. I'm from Ontario, Canada where you can't smoke in any public establishment so I've been able to avoid being around cigarette smoke for years now. I recognize that other parts of the world have different policies on this. Can someone please comment on the Legend - specifically where was smoking allowed, did it seem to be smokey all the time, was it bothersome?

I may be pregnant on the cruise and I like to try to avoid secondhand smoke as much as possible, particularly when pregnant.

Thanks a bunch

Smoking is allowed on deck on the starboard side, in cabins, on balconies and in certain clubs and the casino. The only place the smoke bothered me on the Legend was in the casino and especially at night. I only went to the casino during the day.

Smoking is prohibited in all restaurants, hallways and stairwells, the main show lounge and certain other venues.

If you avoid the casino you will have minimal exposure to smoke.

The other 3 Spirit class ships we sailed on handled the smoke pretty well.

You can go up one level and avoid the casino so it is possible to walk from one end of the ship to the other without ever "walking through" a smoking area.

Carnival implemented Designated Smoking areas several years ago and they seem to be working well. Of course, there is the odd smoker who lits up in the wrong place, but that is usually by accident. Carnival does need to do a better job on their signage. Folks are a cruise and their brains are in vacation mode. Carnival needs signs that a blind person can read.

On the Legend, you can smoke in the disco, piano bar, casino, cigar bar and the sports bar. Outside, on the starboard side of the Lido deck by the pool.

Folks do smoke in their cabins and on their balconies. RCCL just eliminated smoking in the cabins and I believe Carnival will follow suit soon....because there is just no way to keep the smoke "in the cabin" and children are being exposed.

We have sailed Carnival a lot and we have never walked into a cabin that had "obviously" belonged to a smoker before us. Whatever they use in those cabins is magic.

However, I have read of the very rare case of this happening. If it does, simply ask your Cabin Steward for a complete "change out". (they can even replace the mattresses if necessary). They shampoo the carpet (which dries in 3 hours) and you should be good to go!!!

If you think this will be a serious issue for you (like folks with asthma) then you might want to check out Oceania. They do not allow smoking anywhere except two small areas on the ship. No smoking in the cabins or on the balconies!

Happy Cruising!!!

It also depends on the week. I can only assume that some weeks have more smokers than others.

This is very true. I never realized how much "luck" played into the equation until we sailed the Holiday one July with very few smokers and no issues at all and then again in October where the smoke was so bad, I thought we would have to stop cruising on Carnival. But that was BEFORE their designated smoking areas.

What a difference just 3 months made!

You never know week from week the passenger make up.

Thanks for the info, something I hadn't thought of yet, until I ran across this thread. We sail in August and none of us (there's 5) like the smell of cigarette or cigar smoke. Glad to hear they can also take care of any problems, in cabin, if previous cruiser was smoker.
