Saguenay, Quebec

Nancy I lived in Quebec city wich is 2 hours drive from Saguenay. Don't worry in July the sun goes down at 21:00 so you will be able to see the fjord and watch for beluga wich are a type of white whale about the size of a dolphin there is plenty in the Saguenay. It is very scenic. Do you stop somewhere. I was in the Saguenay area last week end and I have seen that they are building a new pier for cruise ships. If you have shore excursions let me know what they propose and I will tell you what is better

iata ... not Nancy ... but would appreciate your help, please. :o

We do have a port of call in Saguenay on Eurodam and are considering the shore excursion on a small boat to "explore the fjords".

What are your thoughts on doing this one?

Saguenay is a region of Quebec and also officially the new name of the amalgamated towns of which the largest was called Chicoutimi. The actual port is in La Baie, not far from Chicoutimi. I've linked a map for you. Believe it or not, the wharf is actually in the Baie de Ha! Ha!

The Eurodam and the Royal Princess are the only two ships stopping there in 2008. Bonjour Quebec has a section on the Saguenay/Lac St-Jean region. I've directly linked you to the section. The local tourism department also has a website that I have linked. And the town itself does as well and I have linked that.

I've linked the English versions, of course. I hope that helps.

Thanks! We're just cruising the river for 3 hours - no port stop. We'll be there on Oct. 13th, so Daylight Savings Time will still be in effect. I'm really looking forward to it.

I would definitely recommend a cruise, as that will also permit you to do some whale-watching. Here are some links:

We are looking to book a RCI cruise that will be going through here at the very end of Sept. The 29th I think. Will there be any fall color likely at that time?

Thanks!

Suzanne

Maybe but it won't be full bloom that is almost sure.

My DH and I cruised the Fjord on the Jewel of the Sea in 2004 in October and it was beautiful. It was interested going up this river and then getting there. I found it very pretty and so tranquil. We have beautiful memories of that area. One thing, it was very cold in October when we went. We saw a few orcas.

I wish I was going again. Canada/New England besides Alaska has been my favorite cruise.

We will be around the Quebec City area for a week in May. I am now wondering about driving to Saguenay for a day. Is it best seen from the water & are there day trips by boat to be had?

Thanks.

Graham.

From Quebec City you likely are more interested in driving up to Baie St. Catherine and seeing the Charlevoix and not all the way to the Saguenay. Maybe even across the river to Tadoussac. To the Chateau (and casino) in La Malbaie. They have wonderful cruises on small boats or zodiacs to the whales. The ferry from Baie St Catherine to Tadoussac is free, paid for by our tax dollars (otherwise, it's a LONG drive around.)
